On the palate this has good density and roundness , with some ripe cherry , red plum , wild fruits and a touch of spice . Good acidity and fine , ripe tannins , good energy and freshness . Good length and a ripe red fruits, scorched earth tinged finish . Quite fresh and aromatically complex , probably the most enticing wine this evening and probably the most ready to drink. Certainly not as rare as the Ponsot’s Clos des Monts Luisants, but as soon as I saw this on the wine list at reasonable price, I knew this was what I wanted to order.

The nose opens with lemon oil, white peach, crushed stones, and subtle hazelnut. The palate is supple yet lively, with vibrant acidity framing ripe orchard fruit and a cool, chalk-driven core. A faint floral note and gentle oak spice add complexity. Elegant with refined balance. — 8 months ago

Dark, deep tawny color. Translucent. Funky nose. Notes of red fruit, sandalwood, rhubarb, sweet candied cherries and some cured meat. Nice mouth feel, but maybe a little thin? Clearly from a high end producer, I guessed 90 Dujac CSD. — 4 years ago

IMO, MG makes one of the absolute best Clos Vougeot’s. This one drank very youthful and primary but all the material is there for this to be a fantastic bottle down the road. It showed much more producer and vineyard than it did the vintage. There was none of the overt greenness that you can often get with 2011’s. Along with Rousseau, Dujac and Tremblay, MG’s 2011’s are very impressive.

After an initial shyness it does reveal itself after a multi hour decant and begins to waft from the glass with aromas of dark fruit, florals and spices. On the palate it’s deep, elegant and pure with fine grained tannins, excellent focus and delineation. But you can tell it wishes to resume its slumber. It often went back and forth from showing great fruit expression to then aromas of woodsmoke and savory herbs. But the herbal qualities are not at all off putting and just add to complexity. I would love to check in on this again with more bottle age. It is clear that it will have a lot to offer those with more patience than me. — 5 years ago

Scarlet color, almost opaque. Fruity, stemmy nose. Notes of dark fruit, bing cherries, moist soil, herbs and spice. Vibrant in the mouth. Silky sweet fruit but not over the top. Nice balance and structure. Really good. If i was tasting this blind I could see someone steering me towards a young Dujac guess. — 4 years ago
