Carignan 1903 Carignan des Schistes 2016

Such a different carignan. Nothing like the heavy tannic wines of old. Great acidity, dried fruits and fresh herbs. Stunning. — 4 months ago

Château Pierre-Bise

Sur Schistes Anjou-Villages Cabernet Franc

The 10% Cab Sav in this really helps round off that Cab Franc funk. Damson & fig jam with that wet forest floor and beetroot earthy note.
Spicy plate with plenty of earthy fruit & veg character.

Domaine Bonnet-Huteau (Château La Tarcière)

Schistes de Goulaine Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Melon de Bourgogne

2015 vintage. Goulaine is the northernmost of the 7 Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine subzones (considered the highest quality crus). Gneiss and schist soils. This beauty was aged for more than 18 months on the lees. Brillant pale yellow. Intensely perfumed, an intriguing mix of flowers, grapefruit and saffron, combined with a distinctive minerality. Crisp and intense taste with mouth-watering bright citrus fruit, a distinctive saffron-like touch and that typical Muscadet saltiness in the long finish. Incredible value at 19 euro. Note also that these wines (always 100 % Melon de Bourgogne) can age beautifully. — 7 months ago
