Domaine des schistes, essencial blanc, côtes du roussillon 2023.
Superb wine sold to us in a local wineshop in downtown Canet en Roussillon (cave Gustumo, if you happen to be around). They have mostly a local selection and the owner is passionate about local wines and especially offers a great range of local vins doux naturels (maury, Muscat de rivesaltes, banyuls...).
This one was open and the owner had us taste it along with a few other wines, including a few Muscat examples. It was a great stop in a great shop.
The nose is made of citrusy touches, cantaloupe, white peach, as well as some minerally touches like chalk and a tiny flinty thing. The palate is super well balanced, there is that tang, that citrusy thing, these fresh white peach touches, a good width and that tiny chalk touch, some nice grip and a super lovely, yet lively finish that goes on for a while. Give me that white wine over a lot of the more expensive stuff coming from many other more reputable regions. — a year ago

Domaine des Schistes, Joia, Muscat à petits grains, vin doux naturel 2022.
This is the macerated version of their VDN made of Muscat. No real notes but I tasted it at cave Gustumo last week in Canet en Roussillon and thought my parents would love it as I did. And they love it! And I still do 😊. Aperitive pour of evening before our diner. Notes of lemon peel, citron, yuzu, fresh grape juice, pine sap, there is a bit of a chalky thing in the rear too. Quite complex and super inviting. This is what sold me actually. The palate is acid driven which I love, because the sweetness is really well balanced. There is certain viscosity to it, some width and nice soft feel, some grape, lemony and yuzu notes all along. The finish is moderately long, with a bit of heat, and some tannic feel to it too. At the end, notes of lemon curd, lemon peel and yuzu, as well a tiny salted caramel note pop up and wrap things up in a nice way. This is really, really delicious. Thumbs up! — a year ago

Dark purple color. Nose has modest OH, blackberry, and tar. Dark Chocolate and black cherry on the palate. Deep wine and could have better structure. Finish is medium.
