Nose has mashed early season cherry, (light) moist loam soil, ripe cherry, moist leather, decaying rose and dried-sweetened cranberry.
Palate has lightly tart cherry, under-ripe raspberry, wet cedar, (light) anise notes and wet granite pebbles.
Smooth tannins, but this wine took a little bit to come to life again in our glasses this evening, delicate, maybe too delicate. I can't tell if this was a should have been enjoyed 5 years ago wine, or needs 5 more years wine...
Decanted ~4 hours, then double decanted for servicing tonight at dinner. Our first Volnay (lieux-dits) from Meursault, just the opposite side of the road from Volnay, but not Volnay! — 7 days ago
Yesterday’s Wednesday Wine Committee lunch. Normal format of 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. All tasted blind.
Birth year Sauternes. Classic profile. Honey roasted cashews and orange marmalade aromatics. Rich and sweet notes of apricot and peach on the palate. Powerful yet not overbearing. I called this mid ‘90s Rieussec. — 9 days ago
Fresh and lively exhibiting ripe cherry, plum, truffle, and licorice. Medium bodied with soft tannins. This wine emphasizes freshness rather than concentration. 90/10 Merlot- Cab Franc. 2016 vintage on Oct 30, 2019 — 7 days ago
Golden yellow. Seems like off bottle compared to the other 2. Good nonetheless — 24 days ago
Just a few pics of the wines from last night’s monthly 4th Friday. Too many bottles to try!
There is A LOT to like here right now. Delicate aromatics of rose petal, strawberry cream and cherry tart but it turns more powerful and rich on the palate. Strawberry shortbread, red fruit skin, chalky limestone and a finish that turns slightly herbal. The structure here shows that this will be open for business for quite a while. — 21 days ago
