Decoy Merlot

Pahlmeyer

Napa Valley Merlot 2021

100% Merlot, deep Ruby color with aromas of berry fruits, cedar and herb spice, aged for 18 months in 89% new French oak, blend of fruit, 68% from Pahlmeyer Estate Vineyard and 33% from Stagecoach. On the palate flavors of black cherry, blueberry and plum with vanilla spice, espresso, cacao and cedar herb notes. Fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit, toasty earthy mineral layered with sweet spicy character. Nice now, will age a bit! — 25 days ago

Ridge Vineyards

Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2019

Just a half bottle test.. way way too early. Decanted and it needed a solid hour before it unfolded at all. Great structure lurking but this experience was impaired by immaturity. — 11 days ago

Celebrating @James K birthday! This was WoTN unanimously. It was complex, yet easy. Beautiful nose and even better palate. We talked about how you couldn’t need anything more in a wine and if you had to only have one wine forever this would be a candidate. Great wine, great food, great friends. — 8 days ago

Château Duhart Milon

Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon - Merlot Blend 1993

Presented double-blind. The wine pours a slightly translucent garnet with an orange rim; medium viscosity with moderate staining and some signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of dried and ripe, red and black fruits: brambles, Bing cherry, old wood and old leather bound books, baking chocolate, grated nutmeg, organic earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ (resolved) tannins and medium+ acidity. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Called Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend from France, Bordeaux, Left Bank, Medoc, 1990. LOL…that’s pretty close! For those wondering, the bottle was opened and decanted for sediment several hours prior. For my palate, Duhart-Milon needs decades to become interesting. Fully mature now though, this has at least a decade of enjoyable life left. — 4 days ago

Château Montrose

Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2012

This is really at an excellent point where fruit and some tertiary notes are combining so good together. — 3 days ago
