Decadent Saint

Château Canon-la-Gaffelière

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

This wine screams right bank Bordeaux supported by a blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. A dark Ruby red in colour this has a lovely perfume with aromas of plum, cigar box, dried bracken and roses, tobacco and spice. Cinnamon and nutmeg from the oak. 70% of the French Oak barrels were new. Medium plus bodied. The tannins are there but lessening in impact. 14.5% ABV. This wine was #2 in the Wine Spectator’s Top 100 of 2013. A near neighbour of the aristocratic Chateau Ausone. — 12 days ago

Had dinner at Chateau Guiraud, which is the same ownership in 2014. Dinner after a multiple vintages tasting at 8 Chateau’s in Sauternes during En Primeur and then tastings 50 Sauternes in an hour before dinner. The final wine was Cannon.

The ownership has a style...which...works over multiple BDX concerns. A bit heavy and gratuitous but it smooths over the various vintage speed bumps here and there. Always pleasant and cordial. Plenty of Howdoyoudo? Attention to detail evident. The various ownership property labels a safe harbor in an uncertain BDX world.

Château Lassègue

Saint Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend

This wine has a special place in my heart for a couple reasons. First, I was drinking a 2012, which is the date my partner and I met.
But mostly it’s because this wine is delicious. Wonderful richness of the cellar with dark blue fruit and pencil shavings, tobacco and really well balanced acidity and tannins. We had the 2012 in 2025 and this wine has plenty of time to go.

Château Gruaud Larose

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

Initial pour was impressive with dark blackberry sage and leather. What I found interesting was the noticeable amount of acid in comparison to the soft almost undetectable tannin. — a day ago

Nose is slightly off, murky, outdoorsey, rainwater, mossy rocks, old cellar scents. Gets better after an hour!
Deep ruby colour. Lovely mouthfeel, red berry fruit, cigars, cold coffee, autumnal forestfloor.
A privilige..!

NYE starter and it’s maturing nicely, classic St Julien notes and berry flavours, soft integrated tannins and good mouth filling feel with longish finish. — 2 days ago

Young here but a fabulous over deliver producer.

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2002

Not the best of vintage in Bdx, but the winemaker clearly pulled off some acrobatics here.
Nose displays the usual Cos spice-box signature, along with notes of forest floor, sage and mushrooms. Palate is rich and dense showing no signs of age. Nice mature casis profile links up with brambles and sandalwood. Tannins continue to prop up this outstanding example.
