Aromas & Flavors
Citrus zest, green apple, and ripe pear lead the profile, with a touch more fruit generosity compared to cooler vintages. Crushed stone minerality and a subtle floral lift add definition and elegance.

Mouthfeel
Light to medium-bodied with bright, refreshing acidity. The 2022 vintage shows a slightly rounder texture, yet remains precise and tension-driven. Clean, crisp, and lingering finish.

Dujac fans know how great their ‘06’s are, Jeremy Seysses’ first vintage in full control. Aux Combottes, surrounded by Grand Cru’s on all four sides, is terrific in 2006, now fully open and giving wafting an unmistakable Dujac perfume with elegant spice laced red berry fruit, cocoa and Gevrey earth. It’s liquid velvet on the palate, notably impressive for the vintage, with superb balance of fruit character, minerality and fine grained tannic structure. Terrific showing! — 7 months ago

1990 vintage. This was the start to the weekly tasting day with the reps. A fave guest brought this in. Was summoned to open it immediately despite having just strolled in. Grabbed the Durand and pounced. Didn't get the opportunity to see the fill but the foil, label and cork were all pristine (too little cork saturation for a 3+decade-old bottle). Screamed château reconditioned. Opened but not decanted. Good color. Great nose immediately. Tasted after 15 mins and 45 mins open. Tasted around noon but bottle needed to have been opened at prior midnight. Showed pretty well, however, with the delicate intricacies this wine is renowned for. Would have presented better with more air time but you can only control so much. 01.29.25. — 2 years ago

The 2017 Vitovska is decidedly savory and spicy, wafting up a beguiling display of sour apple, pear and lemon, complemented by hints of white pepper. It’s soft and almost fleshy upon entry, yet it quickly firms up through a display of brisk acids and minerals that nearly sizzle in the mouth. Inner florals dominate the finale, along with a tug of residual tension. The Skerlj Vitovska is fermented in oak vats for three weeks without temperature control before being moved to barrel for another twenty-four months. (Eric Guido, Vinous, January 2021)

Last night, a buddy of mine who’s a Disabled Veteran and Registered Architect, announced that he was assuming control of a SDVOSB Architecture firm. He had spent the better part of a year of trying to reach a purchase agreement. So it was an evening of celebration. He’s been a Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars fan for some time and he planned to pull the cork on a few bottles. We had a couple of rando bottles too but all were California Cabernet Sauvignon. I brought this bottle. It was part of my most recent delivery from Seavey and I was curious to try it out. Well...it was clearly infanticide. This was reductive at first and most of that blew off after about fifteen minutes. This was just so wound up. Delicious, fresh and almost crunchy fruit with a lot of structure. This was very bright compared to the Heart of Fay that preceded and just fell a touch short due to it being somewhat reticent. That being said, cellar time will be very kind to these and I would imagine this will show better down the road or with a lot of air, which this didn’t get. — 7 years ago

Nan Helgeland makes extraordinary wines because she pays attention both to the wines and the people making them. That’s a whole other story though. This wine: red red fruits for sure(cran-rasp-blackrasp) well balanced but the tannins are gonna play hard to get, then they flirt with you then hide again. It’s intriguing — 8 years ago

Aldo Vaira took control of family vineyards in 1968, he was just 15 years old. Today, G.D. Vajra consists of 150 acres, mostly around the commune of Barolo. Ruby with a rich bouquet of fruit, spices & floral notes, fruit from several vineyards, aged 26 months in Slavonian oak. On the palate flavors of cherry & raspberry with notes of pepper, cinnamon & floral, slight earthy notes. Long finish, nice balance with fine soft tannins ending with earthy floral notes.
