Pale salmon in color; grapefruit, strawberries, and flowers on the nose; high acidity; a hint of tannins; tastes like grapefruit rind and strawberries. Nellie and I really like it. — 2 months ago

Deep ruby with a hint of purple. Aromas of oak, blackberry, cherry, vanilla, and licorice. The palate offers ripe raspberry, blueberry, and plum, with smoky notes that soften after a 4.5-hour decant. The alcohol is noticeable but more balanced with air. Full-bodied with medium-plus tannins, high acidity, and a smooth, velvety texture. Drinking well now but has good aging potential.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2008 Special Club pours a straw color with a persistent mousse. On the nose, the wine is developing and somewhat shy but there’s citrus, white peach, brioche and a rather fascinating smell that reminded me of a built-up roof. On the palate, the wine is dry with high acid. Confirming the notes from the nose however here, it’s much richer and expansive. The finish is long. Young? Probably. Drink now through 2038. No disgorgement data. — 2 days ago
