Châteauneuf Du Pape Grenache

Domaine Charvin

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2017

Elegant, focused, finely tuned CNDP with layered aromatics and textural complexity. Raspberry coulis, crushed blackberries, juniper, exotic spices, some menthol from its whole cluster fermentation, iron, violet. Day two has led to more personality in the fruit with garrigue and pastille accents coming through, perhaps some hung meat emerging. The streak of iron throughout is captivating at the moment. This will be even more beautiful as it continues to develop in bottle. — 7 days ago

Château de Beaucastel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2007

One of my favorite regular beaucastel bottling i have had. Sooo much concentration of fruit here that is still very primary, no lack of lift or acidity even for a hot year. Alcohol is contained. Very nice balance of fruit, alcohol and acidity. This is far from its peak, needs another 10 years at least but already very promising — 4 days ago

Magnum. Fresh, clean and rich. Totally a point now. Definately superior quality compared to 75cl bottle. — 8 days ago

Had for G's 30th birthday celebration (a few days early) with Convivial takeout. Needed a little time to breathe; peppery at first but got fruitier with time. Delicious. ~$40 at Dvines. — 7 days ago

1990 Chateau Rayas Syrah. Decanted 1 hr before serving and it needed every minute of it. Light in color, but rich in flavor. Continued to open up throughout dinner. Initial taste upon opening bottle was iffy: we thought it tasted “hot” and might have been improperly stored at some point. However, as the wine evolved in the decanted, this unpleasant thin and hot feel at the end went away. Roses, black plum, strawberry, licorice, black olives. K picked up more of the fruit. I picked up more of the salty notes. Delicious! — 21 days ago

Kirkland Signature

Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2018

Aromas of cinnamon, licorice, cherry. Light tannins, medium body, dark ruby red. This wine has low acidity, a little bit of a dry taste on the tip of the tongue. Yummy overall! — 11 days ago

Domaine de Marcoux

Vieilles Vignes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2005

Haven’t had a southern Rhône wine in quite a long time, and this was a fun one to break the dry spell. Definitely on the deeper / richer end of the spectrum (and 15% abv) but that’s also partially just 2005. Overall this has very deep just barely jammy red fruit. Actually good acid which keeps it somewhat balanced. Oak somewhat drying on the finish which keeps this from being truly great. — 7 days ago
