Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Fruity nose of cherries, blueberries, plums, Indian spices, light oak, licorice, chocolates, sweet tobacco, herbs and light earth.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blueberries, plums, cooked cherries, light oak, tobacco leaf, chocolates, coffee, peppercorn, licorice, light earth, eucalyptus, bitter herbs and black tea.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a beautiful Merlot from Saint Emilion. Rich and fruit forward. Nicely balanced and elegant. Soft and smooth, spicy and entertaining.

This 9 year old still feels young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly, but already enjoyable, even by itself. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years.

Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food.

A blend of 77% Merlot and 23% Cabernet Franc. Aged in (56% new) French Oak barrels for 18 months.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 1998 pours a deep garnet/purple with an opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with positively charming notes of plum, brambles, grilled Poblano pepper, pipe tobacco, dried mixed flowers, a mix of organic and inorganic earth, fine wood and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and savory. This is about as traditional as it gets and was simply brilliant tonight. Squarely in the zone. Drink now through 2038+. — 4 months ago

Wish I could decant this. Oak on the nose, but it hints at the fruit and tobacco/chocolate you're about to taste. Palate has noticeable but not assertive tannins and blends really nicely with the aforementioned flavors. Paired well with dinner but this feels like a pre-dinner sipper. 2015 vintage. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. If you are looking for blockbusters this might not be your thing. I used to think of Fronsac as very rustic wines that often lacked charm, but these days many fine wines can be found here. This one is all about elegance and gentle extraction. Ripe cassis and flowers in the nose. Gentle and effortless in the mouth, elegant and fresh with good spicy minty length. Lovely. Abv. 13,5 %. — 6 years ago
