Côtes de Bourg Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Initially popped and poured a small glass but it seemed all knees and elbows so I grabbed a decanter which made a significant difference. The 2016 pours a deep ruby color with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears and some signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with ripe and some bruised red and black fruits: Bing cherry, dark chocolate, black plum, salmiakki, purple flowers, new leather, espresso, a touch of Madagascar vanilla, and fine warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, savory and absolutely decadent like a fine chocolate covered cherry. It’s also quite powerful but remarkably balanced despite the high alcohol (15%). However, it’s unquestionably Right Bank. Hard to imagine a more impressive wine from Côtes de Bourg. Drink now with a 30min decant and enjoy through 2036+? — 2 months ago

@Peter van den Besselaar No doubt. This 2016 is not for the faint of heart though. Massive is a word that would also describe it!

Cotes de Catalan red with Guinea Fowl at Spring. Excellent fruit, not the graininess I can find in Grenache/Carignan reds at times. — 2 years ago

Domaine Lafond

Roc Epine Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2012

Lafond Chateauneuf du Pape Roc-Epine is a deep red fruited, elegant wine. Predominantly Grenache (80%), Syrah (10%), Mourvèdre (10%).
The Syrah gives a very nice spicy twist. Overall dense, dark plum and spice. Very enjoyable!

Le Bois Jacou Touraine Gamay

A solid budget “Beauj”. This actually tastes like terroir and you can tell the winemaker is trying to not get too involved in the cellar unlike last nights moulin a vent. A lightness and tartness that is quite fun raspberry notes of fruit and a lot of acidity lead to a good drinking wine. Perhaps cherry notes in the middle? The finish isn’t huge but it does linger after swallowing. Actually the nose is quite pretty. Lilac notes? A flower. Highly recommended. The light tartness on the finish might a little much for some people. Maybe air will mellow it. Will buy again.
Edit: after 20 or 30 min of air the tart end integrates and the wine smoothed even more out. This probably deserves a higher rating than 9. Highly recommended
