Marcassin Vineyard Pinot Noir 2011

This is a style I am not familiar with, very high achievement; dense fruit very ripe and candied but somehow preserving lots of savory meaty characteristics. Michel Liger Bel Air once said that Pinot is pure flavor and this is a great excercise in exactly that. I was surprised to see 14.1% abv but this holds it well. Not hot. Balanced yet also over the top. Not into the price point but I also understand people that could really get into this. I could definitely drink it everyday with probably any food too. — 2 years ago

Bel-Air Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2009

This one will drink well for a long time. It felt so young for mature burgundy, so full of life. Black cherries, thyme, clove, and dried tea leaves on the nose - pallet showed raspberries, dried cranberry, nutmeg, violets, and a lingering finish. The color was beautifully garnet red, slight signs of a burnt orange rim, but a wine full of concentrated flavor and red still remains after 8 years. If you can find some, buy 3, drink one, forget about 2. Paired with fillet mignon, red wine jus, and roasted roots. — 5 years ago
