Night 1 of the Fall WNH event in San Antonio. What a killer start to the extended weekend, all courtesy to Shawn and Jennifer for hosting! Tonight was Italian wines.

This was my second contributed bottle. AG rates this 100pts. Just a few years from its prime drinking window! Red and black fruit medley. So ripe and earth driven. The entry and mid palate are bright fruit but the finish turns dark and tannic...strawberry tart & crushed potpourri. I would love to try this again in 5-7yrs!

Hope you all had some truffle dishes to go with all the great Italian wines!

Castello di Ama

Gran Selezione San Lorenzo Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2017

Too young but still very nice with a 5h decant - suggest checking back in another 3-5 years. Tannins are very present, but the fruit and earth are very nice. Good acid too, especially for a hot vintage. — a year ago

Castello di Monsanto

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2019

Another vintage, another lovely Chianti Classico Riserva from Castello di Monsanto which continues to be a benchmark for wines from San Donato in Poggio. Popped and poured; enjoyed over two days and consistent over both. The 2019 Monsanto CCR pours a deep ruby color with a translucent core. Medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears and no signs of sediment. On the nose, baked mixed berries, dried green herbs, red carnations, dried gravely earth. On the palate, the wine is dry. Medium+ tannin and Medium+ acid. Confirming the notes on the nose. The finish is medium+. A lovely pairing with almost any red sauce dish. Drinking well now and I expect it will continue to do so through 2034. — a year ago

Castello di Amorosa

Zingaro Zinfandel Blend 2012

2012 Il Brigante from Castello di Amorosa is an spin on zin. I mean to say it is phenomenal! Spicy and full flavor. Loads of black cherry and blackberry at first then followed by a tangy (not bitter) blast of perfection in a glass. The spice and vanilla take the tongue hostage and finish it off it a moderately dry oak and earthy ending. My God this is good wine. And affordable! Look out San Antonio winery, I have a new favorite!!!! Castello di Amorosa baby!!!!!!!!! — 7 years ago
