Splash decanted sometime prior to dinner; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. Tonight, the 2020 showed up! More impressive than my last experience back in January of this year. All of the previous notes apply but I perceived a little more oomph. Just outstanding stuff and a great pairing with veal osso bucco. I want to drink this all of the time. Montevertine's Pian del Ciampolo blend is 90% Sangiovese, rest with equal amounts of Canaiolo and Colorino, deep Ruby with purple hues, aromas of red fruits, floral, herbs and smoky oak. On the palate flavors of cherry and currants with dried herb notes, cacao and tobacco notes. Fine ripe sweet tannins, long finish ending with fruit and an earthy herb spice character. Hubby had this one without me (!!). A cheap Italian blend for $13 but its quite delicious and complex. Interesting cider donut spice with cocoa and vanilla but also some basil and nutmeg. It’s a wild ride. Jealous that I missed it. — 9 months ago
