Poured into a decanter prior to service; enjoyed over the course of dinner. The 2015 “Oliveto p.56” Riserva pours, a deep sienna color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with very light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with drop dead, gorgeous notes of funky Morello cherry, red flowers, black tea, cigar box, fresh green herbs, dried blood orange, old leather, old wood, horse blanket, and dry, dusty earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the texture is silky and slightly savory. So Italian that it nearly makes me weep with emotion; this gives me the vibes of old school Brunello Riserva and I’m in love. So much personality! I think this is absolutely phenomenal right now and will likely chill in this window through the remainder of this decade and live well beyond. Drink now through 2040-ish. — 8 months ago

Smells of leather and cedar wood. Tastes like fine minced fruit and pipe tobacco. Very heavy purple fruit on the tip of your tongue flooding out to crushed dark fruit flavors. Smoky. Structured. Reminds me of drinking wine in a cigar lounge even though I’m not there. — 7 years ago

Old school showing restraint and tradition. However, the fruit is a bit muted cherry and takes a backseat to earthy tones of forest floor, leather, and dried herbs. Tannins are firm yet balanced, and the finish carries a touch of tar and rose.
