Popped and poured. First non-Hellenic wine in nearly two weeks. The 2019 RdM by Tenuta Buon Tempo is about as traditional as it gets. It pours a sort of slightly hazy garnet with a slightly brownish rim. On the nose, bright, juicy, Morello cherries, some orange zest, black tea, dried green herbs, porchini, gravelly earth minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and so satisfying. An excellent sipper while my son and I made dinner for the family; a small splash was perfect as part of the foundation for the sauce; and it paired perfectly with pasta alla Norma. Drink now through 2029.

Sep 24th, 2023Leather, tar, tart red fruit, rhubarb, herbal, stemmy, elevated acid, med+ tannin, med+ body. Thought it was either Nerello Mascalese or Sangiovese. NM would have riper fruit, leaner texture.
