Il Paradiso di Frassina

Moz Art Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2013

This is simply fantastic. In the early going it displays laser-like focus and precision with impeccably clean contours and silky, creamy elegance on the palate. Not an ounce of fat on this wine. Tart cherry and raspberry flavors play wonderfully with subtle spice, tobacco, mint and orange rind character. Truly fine Brunello such as this is nearly impossible to put down despite the young tannin. This is going to be a stunning wine with more bottle development which I cannot wait to revisit. — 6 days ago

Campogiovanni (San Felice)

Il Quercione Riserva Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2006

Still primary. Prominent oak and gobs of succulent dark fruit. Violets, black cherry. Juicy and dense with great acidity. Could probably do with more air or time in bottle — 10 days ago

Tenute Silvio Nardi

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 1982

82 Nardi ⚔️
Hue is dark, modest concentration and vibrancy. Oddly, little sediment in Silvio Nardi (74 also little sediment, possibly reconditioned at some time)
Aromas were dark 🌚 This was Tar and Black licorice. Fernet like, even menthol and bitter agent, like Quinine. It was wild on the nose, not sure if heavy decanted would have produced a more interesting tasting, happy to have a clean bottle showing Brunellos structure in fulll force. Tannins were dry, definite bitter beer face present. This was one that needed food, holding down against charcuterie board.

Tenuta Greppo (Biondi-Santi)

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2012

Have not had Brunello from Biondi-Santi before and an amazing dinner at Vini e Vecchi Sapori in Florence was a perfect occasion (esp for $70 under US retail). Definitely could use more time, but accessible now with a bit of air and the right pairing. Dark red fruit on the nose, quite tannic but integrated, and an excellent finish with great acid. — 4 days ago

Riserva Assunto Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2012

Lyle Fass

Wow. This is an intense wine with a ridiculous amount of material. Amazing quality here. Spellbinding nose, sweet spices, deep cherry, very pure and you can tell it’s concentrated. Very mineral and airy with profound layered complex aromas. Truly wow. Palate is a beast with terrific complex and concentrated fruit and loads of acidity. Very pure. Dynamite finish. — 18 days ago

Azienda Agraria Lisini

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2008

Clean, well-made Brunello that drinks very well with minimal air and is priced reasonably. Not a profound wine, but a very good example from a less heralded vintage. Drink or hold up to 5 years. — 4 days ago

Palazzina Le Macioche

Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese 2013

Sort of an elegant baby brunello. So sad these guys sold to the evil empire. Such sweet Sangiovese fruit. Heaven. Perfect with sausage and peppers. Bought from Fass selections. ... as this opens it is profound. But profound in the context of Rosso. Just a linear elegant sweetness. It is in such a way that only Rosso can be. Brunello has too much weight. This has less density so it’s all about the spice and balance. Wow. Amazing internal aromatics. So fine. — 15 days ago
