Fattoria Scopone

Il Bagatto Toscana IGT SuperTuscan Blend 2012

Lyle Fass
9.3

Terrific wine. Insane freshness. Nose of tobacco, cassis, dark cherry fruit, really dark yet vibrant. Complex earth toned as well. Smells like a very good Bordeaux. Terrific sweet fruit and energy. So clean and pure. Velvety and juicy tannins. A huge mouthful. — 2 days ago

Castello Tricerchi

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2013

Light ruby with some brick hue and a viscous swirl; earthy nose, spices like thyme and sage; more complex taste with finer tannins, darker fruit, and longer finish than the Pieve. Around 12.000 bottles produced; large botti used. — 2 hours ago

Banfi

Poggio alle Mura Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2009

Most definitely in a great place window-wise. Bright lush sour cherry. Fairly oaky but not overly done. Beautifully acidic and more primary than I would have expected at 10 years. Finish and body were medium...probably an artifact of vintage. — 5 days ago

Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 1997

Opaque, dark tawny. Tight nose at first but opens with air. Notes of black cherry, earth, a little coffee and some floral. Nicely balanced in the mouth. Not super exciting but shows qualities of a well made wine. — 8 days ago

La Serena

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2013

Medium ruby; dark ripe fruits, baking spices and vanilla; oaky also on the taste which lasts into the finish. Made in the east in new french barriques. Because all the other wines on this tasting were made in large neutral oak, this wine stood out, and not in a good way. — 2 hours ago

Tenuta Il Poggione

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2004

Bright tart cherry on the nose, fresh with gnarly herbs and tobacco underneath. On the palate fresh, with clear, almost tangy fruit. Vivid, tasty and bright, but not particularly profound. — 5 days ago

Poggio Antico

Altero Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

This wine stood out because it is the first of the 2010 vintage I’ve tried that was less satisfying. Nose has less fruit and more complex aromas and is elegant, round, and perfumed; taste is unexceptional and the wine has a poor structure with low acids and coarse tannins, although the finish is quite long. I expected more. 7000 bottles produced in old French barriques. — 2 hours ago

Val di Suga (Angelini)

Spuntali Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2012

More brick hues; robust and delicate nose of asphalt, diesel hints, white flowers and citrus; nice round tannins, medium acids and alcohol, dark fruits, and a miles-long finish. Small production in the south, single cru Spuntali also made in large botti. — 2 hours ago
