Casanova di Neri

30 ° Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2012

Established in 1971 when Giovanni Neri acquired a large estate within Montalcino. One of my Wow Wines! Aged for almost 4 years on oak, 100% Sangiovese. Ruby with aromas of ripe dark fruits, oak and spice. Full-bodied wine with medium acidity, fine yet smooth tannins with elegance and finesse. The ripe fruit flavors of cherry and strawberry are complex yet not overdone. Some cacao, tobacco, toasty and earthiness appear on the long finish. Very nice. — 3 days ago

Piccini

Riserva Brunello di Montalcino

Vintage 2009 / quite far in development with autumn leaves, flint, vannilla and even a slight oxydative impression, perfect balance and a real treat as luncheonwine. Good effort. Paired with a truffle burger/ at DiVino in Hapert — 3 days ago

Valdicava

Riserva Madonna del Piano Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2007

2007 vintage and a little disappointing. The alcohol seems to be on volume 11. Overwhelms the fruit and the finish is light — 4 days ago

Il Paradiso di Manfredi

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2009

Stunning sangiovese
Vibrant, young, complex at the same time
From a fruit to a marvelous violet, leather, balsamic and licorice
It goes so easily down
It will last another 5-10 years
I will try to buy more

Fattoria dei Barbi (Colombini)

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2013

Really tight at pop and pour—had nice potential but could tell it was “closed”. Then decanted. Started to open up after 15 minutes but was singing “delicious” at 45 minutes. Also, as with all good Italian red, was better w food. Really popped with lightly spicy tomato sauce. Definitely tart cherries, some bright red raspberries, white pepper, and some lightly cedar-y tannin. Really nice. Wish I had had the time to really let it open before starting to drink it, but it was great nonetheless. — 10 days ago

Stunning classic Brunello nose. Big saturated cherries, wet earth, some funk and minerals. Smells ripe as well. Palate is deep, structured and mineral with lovely fruit but seems to lack lift. Maybe air will sort this out. — 7 days ago

Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona

Pianrosso Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 1997

Perfect timing ... Milk chocolate rolls off this baby. Nose and palate. I don't think this wine could be any more ready. Some light spearmint, but mainly super creamy, butterscotch, God I love this winery. Still a ton of tannin.

Palazzina Le Macioche

Le Macioche Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

Lovely medium-bodied wine, just beginning to open up to show cedar, lavender, violet, cherry and leather. Quite elegant and actually drinks lighter than it's 14.5% ABV would indicate. Silky texture, long finish - great finesse — 2 days ago

Tenuta Nuova Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

Okay, a lot to process on this Easter Sunday... I was a bit past analytical by the time I opened this. But I know from memory of previous bottles that this is a 94.
