Larner Vineyard Red Wine Blend 2016

This is a wonderful Grenache from Santa Barbara County.

Full bodied with medium plus acidity.

Showing black fruits with wood, earth, spices, light vanilla, licorice, tobacco, chocolates, coffee and peppercorn.

Dry on the palate with a great mouthfeel. Good by itself or with food.

Needs a couple of hours to open up properly, so be patient. Showing a great nose once it opens up.

This Single Vineyard Grenache is nicely balanced with nice complexity.

Wine Enthusiasts 94 points.

Would be nice to revisit it in 3 to 5 years.

15.2% alcohol by volume.

Is this Grenache or Syrah-dominant?

I believe that the 2016 is Grenache dominant and the 2017 is Syrah based

This is Major Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir

Understated and graceful PN with pure red and blue fruit aromas and flavors, a little smoke, white pepper, light herbs, and cotton candy. Not too complex but great with good. Low tannin, high acid. Simple but pure pleasure. — 11 days ago

Rhys Vineyards

Alesia Fairview Ranch Syrah 2006

We were so fortunate to have Jeff Brinkman, Rhys’ winemaker for the past 15 years, join our tasting of nine Rhys Syrahs from 2003 - 2013. I liked the eucalyptus, mint and age. — 3 days ago

Belle Glos

Clark & Telephone Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019

This young Pinot Noir from California is already drinking very nicely.

Big, bold and opulent. Rich, yet elegant. Very fruity on the palate.

Showing black fruits with wood, vanilla, earth, spices, chocolates, tobacco leaf and light green vegetables.

Spicy finish with soft tannins.

I prefer drinking this at around 5 year of age.

I gave it a long decant (2 hours), which callmed it down a bit.

A Pinot Noir for the Cabernet lover.

14.9% alcohol by volume.

Au Bon Climat

Santa Barbara County Chardonnay 2018

A real bargain for $25. Light Ruby with aromas of red fruit and gentle perfume spice. On the palate strawberry and cranberry with tea and baking spices on a smooth tannin structure. Fresh finish with a medium length ending. Solid value, the fruit should calm down a bit in a year or so. — 4 days ago

Rose & Son Brioche Skin Contact Grüner Veltliner Blend 2019

With just a few days of skin contact under its belt, this wine straddles the line between a rich white and orange wine. Appearance is translucent gold. On the nose this wine is soft and quiet with some subtle citrus, honey, and stone. Dry and light-bodied, with a crisp tart apple and botanical flavor. Finish is on the shortish side with a hint of tannin. Overal a balanced, elegant affair. — 12 days ago

The Valley Project

Los Alamos Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir 2012

This is quite a special wine. I don’t care what the others rated this. I like it. Purchased on my trip to Santa Barbara almost 6 years ago. Now I remember why I bought it at the tasting room. Nice floral bouquet, slightly acidic, light translucent color with less than 13 percent alcohol (that’s a good thing). Very good structure that would suggest this wine is in the middle innings and can probably last a few more years — 8 days ago

Kendall-Jackson

Jackson Estate Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay 2018

Color of bubbly saturated gold. Nose is full of ripe tropical fruits, like pineapple, mangos, and banana, plus some nutty note and mineral. Nose is full. Taste is following the nose yet lighter, with addition of some more flowering note. Almost dry and a bit warm from nutty note. Aftertaste shows some more mineral and a bit more sweet. On par. — 10 days ago

Scar of the Sea

Rancho Sisquoc Santa Maria Valley Syrah 2019

Suspected this would go with whole roasted grapefruit chicken but didn’t know how well. I read that the team behind this parted ways. Dark blackberry color, & a rich yet balanced black currant palate with surprising 13.5% alcohol. Some Sopressetta notes but more on the fruit rather than game spectrum. Delicious. And @25$ or less. — 14 days ago
