Bien Nacido Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

Shay A
9.2

Not had wine from this producer before, but I adore this vineyard, and at a close out price, I wanted to give it a try.

As expected for Bien Nacido, there was a savory note on the nose with some smoked meat and iron, wrapped around rhubarb tart and candied black cherries. On the palate, it was quite light and semi acidic, with hardly any finish. I’m assuming there was a small use of whole cluster here due to the spice and lifted profile, but aside from that, it was fairly easy going with potpourri, bing cherries, and some cedar.

They make nice stuff. Hard to find.

It’s actually weightier than the la rinconada vineyard but not as much as the sanford and benedict. A nice showcase of vineyards in the lineup

Clendenen Family Vineyards

Le Bon Climat Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir 2013

13’Clendenen Family Vineyards. Le Bon Climat Pinot Noir.
Color - Pale Ruby
Palate- Fresh picked strawberries, a splash of spices & tobacco. Perfect amount of acidity, tannins are soft & approachable. Certainly one of the best PN’s I’ve had out of California in the last 12 mo.
Sensational bottle of wine. Recommended highly.

Absolutely agree.

A hallmark of the Clendenen-made wines. Rarely electric guitar. Almost exclusively violin. You must sift through and analyze vs being punched in the face. Waay too many people apparently are lost on subtlety and prefer being punched in the face. Pity.

Nicely done.
Oh -natural… No make up.

Cuvée Sarah Case Sleepy Hollow Vineyard Chardonnay 2016

Divine! Refined. Yet not too un-subtle. It will embrace you with a baked apple-y vanilla lemon curd butter hug. That’s a good hug. But it is bright and lovely. Still there is a zing and brightness to counter anything hinting at rich. Good stuff. — 4 days ago

Always amazingly good. I maintain the Pisoni vineyard Syrah is better than the Pinot. I just love it. Warm fruit compote on the nose with cinnamon, coffee and cracked pepper. Rich and opulent but with great grip and tension. Just fabulous — 5 days ago

Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir 2014

Beautiful deep garnet color with hints of red plum, pomegranate, cranberry, cinnamon and some smoke on the nose. Elegant tastes of red and blue fruit enhanced with a nice element of white pepper giving the wine a great spicy boost. Perfectly balanced with a great long and spicy finish. — 13 days ago

Pie Franco Altos de la Hoya Finca Hoya de Santa Ana Jumilla Monastrell 2017

Not usually a fan of Monastrell - most I’ve tried have been jammy and flabby, but this was different. Nose is black fruit, smoke, and green olive, which all translate nicely to the palate with a wet asphalt mineral streak. Balanced and food friendly. — 21 days ago

Todos Santa Ynez Valley Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

A blend of 47% Syrah, 28% Cab Sauv and adding Cab Franc, Sangiovese, Viognier, Petit Verdot & Metlot. Deep Ruby with complex aromas of dark fruit, spice, almonds and wet earth. On the palate blackberry, currant and raspberry flavors, soft tannins on a long finish ending with leather, pepper and oak tones. Very Nice, a beauty. — 8 days ago
