Very oaky — 5 years ago
Black currant here with maybe a powderier and softer structure than I remember in other vintages. That said, this is such a great wine year after year. If you enjoy it, try getting your hands on their Vulture which is 100% Cab Franc for a similar expression without the merlot to mellow it. — 6 years ago

The whites from Van Westen are often overlooked under the shadow of their excellent reds. This grigio is excellent though. This wine is real and without gimmicks. That almost makes it an exception for Pinot Gris in Naramata. Genuine and well made. A very nice glass of wine with the mineral, lemon, and sage in perfect balance. — 7 years ago

The grapes for this Bordeaux style come exclusively from Black Sage Bench vineyards. It’s an elegant blend of Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, and Merlot that deliver a well balanced wine resplendent in notes of blackberry, plum, pepper and chocolate. Softer tannins add to the elegance. An excellently crafted wine. — 7 years ago

Medium ruby; medium plus intensity aromas of intense lingonberry jam, ripe raspberries, ripe black currant, ripe blackberry, earth, heady potpourri, subtle vanilla and baking spices; dry, medium acid, medium silky tannins, alcohol listed at medium but tasted pretty hot to me, medium body, medium plus intensity flavors consistent with aromas; medium plus finish, flavors very ripe and concentrated , but quite elegant, outstanding — 6 years ago
