This is a wonderful wine - one of the best field blends I’ve had, really. There’s an impression of wild raspberries and boysenberries on the front end, backed by a layer of mildly peppery spice, and presented in a medium-bodied frame. The tannins are mostly resolved and the finish is clean and just a touch sweet. This was ready to go with minimal air.

This is my second Temperance Hill pinot, and I’m finding I’m a big fan. This opens with striking aromatics. Dark cherry, slow roasted strawberry, raspberry, incense, sage, thyme, and cloves all come through on the nose, with floral notes and forest floor peaking through with time in the glass. The flavors on the palate mirror the nose, with outstanding depth. There’s fresh acidity that amplifies the fruit but doesn’t overwhelm. The finish leaves incense, cloves, black tea, and a saline minerality lingering on the palate. Well balanced with good acidity and medium/firm tannins. I can see this aging well. The 2016 Syrah Watch Hill Vineyard is dense, powerful and super-concentrated. Inky blue/purplish fruit, lavender, menthol, licorice and spice notes are all amped up in this rich, beautifully resonant Syrah. 2021 is drinking really nicely now. Dark ruby/purple and a big bold nose of plum, vanilla, blueberry and blackberry - in that order. Not too tight or big, but medium acidity and medium large tannins. Long finish with some tobacco and leather once it has opened up a bit. Definitely not a fast sipper, the flavors linger for a good while after each sip. — 9 months ago

Big, warm, leather and spices on the nose. So much spice on the front of the tongue as you sip, jammy stewed blackberries, good tannins that pull the moisture from your mouth, and a spicey tingle that just lingers.
