Temperance Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir

This is my second Temperance Hill pinot, and I’m finding I’m a big fan. This opens with striking aromatics. Dark cherry, slow roasted strawberry, raspberry, incense, sage, thyme, and cloves all come through on the nose, with floral notes and forest floor peaking through with time in the glass. The flavors on the palate mirror the nose, with outstanding depth. There’s fresh acidity that amplifies the fruit but doesn’t overwhelm. The finish leaves incense, cloves, black tea, and a saline minerality lingering on the palate. Well balanced with good acidity and medium/firm tannins. I can see this aging well. Vintage is 2019. — 11 days ago

Rex Hill Vineyards

Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2017

Ruby with aromas dark red fruits and floral spice. On the palate black cherry, blackberry and plum flavors with cedar, pepper and vanilla spice. Big, yet soft tannins, long finish well balanced with acidity ending with fruit, cedar and floral spice. Nice! — 5 years ago

Wow wow wow. Big Bang citrus with lemon and grapefruit fruit. Very little oak if any. Maybe neutral barrel aging. Long, long finish. Acidity perfectly balanced. — 6 years ago

Cakebread Cellars

Vine Hill Ranch Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

2021 is drinking really nicely now. Dark ruby/purple and a big bold nose of plum, vanilla, blueberry and blackberry - in that order. Not too tight or big, but medium acidity and medium large tannins. Long finish with some tobacco and leather once it has opened up a bit. Definitely not a fast sipper, the flavors linger for a good while after each sip. — 7 months ago

St. Helena Estate Mixed Blacks Field Blend Red Blend 2015

Outstanding, and still young, easily will improve over the next few years. On par with favorite Martinellis and Turleys, though lower alcohol and not quite as big. Still plenty of complexity and rich black fruits. — 4 years ago

Clifton Hill Syrah 2011

Big and powerful Syrah. Make sure you decant this one. Dark blue and black brambly fruit. Black pepper and licorice. Hint of earth and chocolate. Dark purple color and very long finish. If you are a bold Syrah fan, this will satisfy you. Very pleasant! Very consistent producer. — 7 years ago
