Quite pale colour , light straw . Quite discreet on the nose at first , a bit o candle wax , lime juice , and wet wool . Quite classic and showing a little maturity . On the palate this is reasonably intense though elegant with lime syrup , touch of vanilla , lots of freshness still , but a lightly creamy mid palate and good length with lightly toasty finish . Dark inky in color with a short reddish/ brick rim.

Strong nose of cooked black fruits with cedar, vanilla, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, spices, light earth and black pepper.

Full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry, and still fruity on the palate, with blackberries, black currants, cooked plums, tobacco, cedar, chocolates, vanilla, licorice, cola and mediterranean spices.

Long finish with soft tannins and cherries.

This 22 year old Bordeaux blend from Beckstoffer Vineyard in Napa Valley is drinking gorgeously now. Rich and fruit forward, extremely complex and engaging. Well balanced with a soft mouthfeel.

Still drinking at its peak, although will not get better from this point on, as it feels like it is at the end of its peak.

I did not decant it, and let it open up in the bottle. Delicious after an hour, and a great sipping wine.

A superb experience at this point in time.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

One of the Hunter Valleys premium Cuvees honouring the legendary Maurice O’Shea. Very dark ruby - impenetrable in colour. Aromatics of sweet earth - very earthy - plum, red berry and dark chocolate - very Hunter Valley. Amazingly strong for a 27 year old wine. Very Rich, full bodied and concentrated for a Hunter Valley wine. I’ve commented on this before that there was a period of 10 plus years where HV wines were made to imitate South Australian wines - ripe and full bodied. This wine represents that style. Thankfully the current style is more medium bodied but nevertheless this is an outstanding wine with at least 10 plus years left in it. — 3 months ago
