Champ Persin Brut. Marvelous. — 10 months ago
Very similar to the 2016 I opened 6-8 months ago, yet more open for business. Some of these wines have a reputation for “large and in charge”, but this was supremely balanced, toeing the line between Sonoma and white burgundy with richness. Whereas Aubert’s chards can be more powerful (and is normally my favorite), I’m always pleasantly surprised at how these show.
Aromatically it revealed sugar frosted stone fruits, guava, white peach, caramel dipped golden delicious apples and baking spices. It has a beautifully textured palate that starts as though it’s going to be dense, but finishes with a gorgeous lifted profile and plenty of acidity. Added notes on the palate of powdered lemon bar, floral honeysuckle, whipped lemon cream and even some honey roasted cashews. I’d pop this 2017 before the 2016 with how open it is, but it will cruise another 7-10yrs, easily. — 4 years ago

So fine and sophisticated. Lovely New Years drink — a year ago
96 that leans deep into 97. Always stunning from this producer regardless of vintage. Producer trust.
This still has dark, round, meaty, backbone tannins, dark currents w/ Indian/Asian spices. Ruby, lush; blackberries, black raspberries, black plum w/ dry skin, darkest of cherries, raspberry hues, purple fruits hues, deep baking spices, dark chocolate bar, mocha, caramel, dry top soil, crushed limestone powder, dry tobacco/leather, dry herbs-bay leave/sage, dry, slightly candied to withering flowers framed in violets/lavender, excellent, round acidity with a finish that is well structured, balanced, nicely tensioned & elegantly polished finish that falls onto dry earth & lasts minutes.
This 2001 is still youthful & has at least another decade well stored. — 7 months ago
My favorite new world producer of Malbec. Charles Hendricks Winemaker. I’ve had nearly every vintage 2018 back to 2007…first 2006 & it’s gorgeous.
Ruby, ripe; blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, dark cherries with a touch of strawberries & blueberries. Dark chocolate cake w/ fudge frosting, caramel, mocha, cocoa bar, malt balls, barrel pulp/powder, soft, dark spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanillin, mid berry licorice/cola, tarriness, anise, dry tobacco, dry brush/twig, limestone powder, dry top soil, candied to withering; dark, red flowers framed in liquid violets & lavender, waterfall acidity with a lush, well; rounded, knitted, evolved, softened tensioned, balanced with excellent polished & finish that lasts minutes. — 8 months ago

You're not 40 every day and I wanted a special wine to celebrate that special day. Fortunately the wine bar / open kitchen restaurant we went to had that special wine, amongst 400 references, that I had been desperate to taste for a long while. I didn't take notes so it's all from memory, but the nose is what I liked the most. Coconut notes, leather, cherries, coffee... I spent probably 15 minutes in total smelling that wine. The palate was great with some acid drive, some matter but not in an overwhelming way, some gentle, well integrated tannins in the rear, before a long finish with savoury notes, red fruits, coconut and that gentle grainy tannic layer. A great experience to top up a day to remember.
