Baroque and Baden like but with Mosel soul. Dried apricot, juicy and textured. Almost oily but not quite. Really threads that needle perfectly. — 2 months ago
2nd to last bottle of a long line up in a summer dinner, & showed I thought rather spectacularly between a Petit Chablis & the only red of the night. Paired with local, rich cow cheese- the more vibrant round & traminer- like richness of the varietal came alive as a result. Plus the smoky mineral endive fennel notes made even more clear. Made me rethink how to serve this wine w food, & when. — 10 months ago
This bottle is very reserved. Usually this is a bit more showy. Nose is a bit neutral which means maybe this is aromatically closed? But that palate is all saline, lemon, mineral and huge acid and grip. Like Puligny 1er Cru. Architectural in its structure. Super sappy and dense and so clean. Chiseled. Odd the nose is so reserved. This is so epic on the palate with just enormous density, structure and concentration. Thick yet dry. Let’s see where this goes. Now the nose is starting to show. It’s got that wet earth, wet stones thing going. Huge mineral stank. Now it’s grooving. Nose is all Puligny with flowers and iodine. Brown sugar as well. So elegant. nimble and juicy. Luscious and mouthwatering. Chewy and dense. Unreal mineral sweetness. — 10 days ago
I love this wine but I’ll admit it’s niche. Glorious confectionary nose. Clearly too young, as this wine really sings starting at 10, but whatever, I got too much wine to drink them all at the perfect time. Sweet wood, stone fruits and intense minerality. Some pollen as well on the nose. Such a complex nose. But in 5 years watch out! Palate is so elegant and rich but fresh from the minerals and not the acid which is merely solid. Really coats the tongue. So good. The finish is stone fruits, sweet wood and that rock licking feeling on your tongue. Just a killer Grau because it’s got that Laible magic. — 8 months ago
Settled in. The exuberant Riesling fruit settled down. I am not sure. Preferred this wine when young. More later. Grown on granite in Durbach a little village on the slope of the black forest. Stonefruit, hint peach, lemon. — 10 months ago
