What a color. The famous 2003 vintage. What a nose. Sick. Roasted nuts. Orange citrusy jelly. Tons of spice and airy sea breeze like minerals. Expansive minerals. Like super super expansive. Wow. What a sick nose. This is elite. 9.6 nose. This would cost so much more if this wasn’t Erbaluce from Bramaterra. There is an exotic liqueur element as well but so restrained. So so restrained. But there. I could go on but the palate. We gotta talk about the palate. Elite! Ethereal. Stunning richness and so elegant and light yet rich. Sticky like the Aussies say but also so mineral and fresh. It has freshness from the unique Erbaluce minerality. Long. Grilled apricots. Baked apples, caramel, peaches. So so complex. So energetic and linear. This is terrific. — 18 days ago

Crazy crazy spice as expected from this cuvee. There are layers of tar, deep black cherry and huge minerals as well. It’s a terrific nose. Stunningly deep and aromatic 95/9.6 nose. It evolves constantly and is almost not stable it’s changing so much. Violets come into view. Also a loamy aspect. Palate is tight but oh so promising. Amazing fine grained tannins that are super velvety. So pure and love the 2014 angles. Complex and elegant with just terrific lift and brightness. Long, complex and mineral tinged finish. Sappy and pure. Really long. Awesome inner mouth aromas of sweet cherry. Balanced, pure and super sweet with air. This has massive structure and will only get better and likely demands 3-4 years in the cellar. So killer. 9.4 but I think in an hour it’s gonna be 9.4. Stunning finish.

After air this is insane. Nose is perfumed, complex and spicey. Deep violets. So good 9.5 nose. Palate is so velvety now. Great freshness and so pure. Terrific finish. Gets to every nook and cranny.

Bricco del Bosco Grignolino Monferrato Casalese 2018

A grape from Piemonte I didn’t know, apparantly lost but coming up again due to the younger generation winemakers. I’m in! Transparant in colour, gamay like taste and very light on it’s feet. But it’s a silent killer with it’s 14,5%. Very pleasant surprise! — 2 days ago

Langhe Freisa 2015

In the glass, a touch hazy. On the nose, remarkable bright red fruits and tar. The bouquet is deeply layered but not really easy to pull everything out in the context of the meal. On the palate, crunchy red fruits and a touch frizzante that dissipates. After some air, roses join the massive aromatic theater of this wine. Utterly fresh and with quite substantial structure! A lovely Freisa and likely the best I’ve ever encountered. Bravissimo! — 2 days ago

Langhe Pinot Nero 777 2016

It has arrived. 🥳 Clearly a wine that takes it years to mature. Over the time I tasted a few bottles, but this one made my day. Had a nice cheesy pizza with. Pottery red-brown transparant. Light cherry, red fruits, some roses, herby, forest hummus, still a small sweet hint. Silk smooth tanine with Italian acidity. Still a few more to try, but also a nice one to pick next time we visit this very nice and friendly family. — 3 days ago

Montestefano Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2014

Very nice but not singing at nearly the same level as the last bottle I had of this (about six months ago). Perhaps a bit closed, or just variation? Fairly brick red in the glass - classic nebbiolo. Beautiful red cherries and strawberry on the nose. Tannins are quite present and less integrated than I recall - but went well with a very nice fatty dry-aged prime ribeye from Fleishers. Nice lifting acid on the finish with a hint of menthol. — 9 days ago

Barolo Nebbiolo 2012

Showtime from the very first pour. Absolutely sensational aromatics with red cherry fruit, orange citrus, sandalwood, and roses. So much depth! On the palate, there is red fruits and porcini with a long and lovely, every so slightly saline finish. Gorgeous and now I want more…but this bottle was courtesy of a friend and I live in Nebraska where we don’t always get to have nice things. A fabulous pairing with duck frites and bison tartar. — 2 days ago

This is fantastic. Distinctive Bosc pears, cider, passion fruit. Not leesy, but great with its age. Buy and share. — 8 days ago

Vigna Lazzairasco Barolo Nebbiolo 2014

From the lower part of the Lazzarito, a traditionally-produced Barolo from an under-the-radar winemaker. The ‘14 could appreciate 5-10 more years in bottle, but I’m impatient. Big leather and anise, with some herbal notes.... almost a “meaty” wine, but the florals come to dominate after some air. Should be perfect with your rich N. Italia foods. Looking forward to visiting this winery on our next Piemonte trip. — 8 days ago

Scarpa (Antica Casa Vinicola Scarpa)

Tettimorra Barolo Nebbiolo 1987

An elegant wine. Still lively despite its age ( spoke. By someone older!). Light nose of Dark fruit and a hint of tar. A treat to taste. Long finish - well balanced and still a hint of tannin - but drinking well now ...sadly last bottle. — 21 hours ago
