Perhaps the best young Châteauneuf-du-Pape that I’ve ever tasted, this extraordinary wine has power, but also elegance; purity, but also enormity; sweetness, but also umami. The aromas are classic for the appellation, with sweet blue fruit, Turkish delight, soy, coffee, heady garrigue and smoked bacon. But it’s the palate that steals the show, gobsmackingly gorgeous, with enormous presence and a near-perfect harmony between intense, dark, sweet fruit from the century-old Grenache, and bitter coffee, orange peel and a thousand other flavours that carry through to the finish. Super strong tannins at the moment; this wine will age superbly. The finish is incredibly long. They only make one cuvée each of red and white at Vieux Donjon - no high end bottling - and it shows in the incredible quality of this wine, which is up there with the very best. — 10 days ago
I took one whiff and a taste of this and remembered why I love CdP. Red and black berries, earthy, dried herbs, raspberry and coal dust. 60% Grenache; 20% Mourvèdre; 15% Syrah and 5% other permitted varieties Has depth and flavour but does it at just medium bodied. I didn’t realise I had a bottle in mid June 2023. I normally try to spread them out a bit. — 11 days ago

Interesting and complicated. A varietal that we rarely approach. Tropical notes on the nose and palate. It displays effervescence on the mid palate, which I find distracting. But the pineapple notes draw you in. A very sweet finale left us thinking this was somewhat of a hybrid between Sauvignon Blanc and champagne. — a month ago
Deep ruby color.
Aromas of red/black fruit, tomato leaf, cinnamon.

Awesome. 14 yr old CdP. Described the nose as stone wall after a rain storm. Powerful with tannins fully resolved. Easy to keep drinking this all night — 3 days ago
Bacon ball but you have to hit it just right. Definitely took a wild to open up and then developed a beautifully into hot earths, smoky and chewy meats, Italian spices, and some stewed black currant. After a few hours open, though it just sort of became a jammy one note song. — 17 days ago
Strong vanilla. I found the older vintage ok, but I like a young Chablis. — 25 days ago

Great storage on this one. Perfect match for a Wagyu Filet Mignon K&L notes as follows Perfect drinking 29 year old Bordeaux for about $1 per year! I love their 2004, but this wine is even better. 1995 was great Merlot year in Bordeaux and the grape shines through here. Sweet and fresh on the palate. The nose has some bottle Bouquet and touch of blueberry aromas. It is still lush on the palate. An old Bill Blatch find in the 80s. And it will cellar some more years with out a problem. Buy it by the case and enjoy with a short rib or lamb dish.
