A wonderfully developed plummy nose with dried herbs, violet, leather, licorice root. Slightly tangy and savory with dried cherry and nice rounded edges. Long finish.

1990. A little reticent at first, with the leafiness of CF coming through strongly, but rounded out very nicely indeed.

Beat more recent VCCs I've tried. This bursted on the entire olfactory path, cigar box, moss and bright florals. The powerful core of cedary black fruit walked a perfect line between extraordinary extraction and the soft and integrated sense of age. Lithe, layered, finish went forever. Phenomenal.

1990 vintage. From Double Magnum. At Harry's Bar for Jay K's birthday. Immediately on opening, green and vegetal, woody. But blew off fairly quickly with red plum and cedar notes to the fore. On the palate, medium acidity and integrated medium minus tannins. Medium concentration. Finish is medium plus. Let's come back to this in an hour and reassess. An hour on: more earth, twig, forest floor and slight medicinal notes. The wine is starting to becoming tart - not sure decanting was a good idea! Drink up soon - not for keeping.

1990 vintage in magnum. Deep garnet hue. Quite medicinal and herby, with a touch of menthol. Fresh blackberry, leather and dark chocolate. On the palate, rich black fruits, sweet spices, prune and fig, dark chocolate. Medium acidity. Medium plus integrated tannins that still have grip. Good long finish - some bitterness at the sharp end. Very good. But suspect this wine is already on a shallow downhill slope. NB: after an hour, there's a herbal, savoury character to the wine. Confirms my view that this wine isn't going to get better from herein.
