Alpine Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019

2019 vintage. Light body. Fairly presh and delicate. Milk chocolate, rhubarb, strawberry, sandalwood and raspberry rolling through the experience. Seemingly carving out subtle extremes in what is actually possible in the SCM. 2.16.24. — 9 days ago

Estate Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot Blend 1999

Supple and more elegant than muscular. Wonderful on opening and even more pleasant over next two hours. It has a richness and a meandering way. Less focused than some of the more recent vintages from Monte Bello. — 11 days ago

Bodegas y Viñedos Maurodos

Viña San Román Toro Tempranillo 2009

Still intact. But it’s too ashy and bitter for me.

Better balance and more suppleness on day 2.

Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1997

Flight #2 of our 1997 Retrospective and these were the thoroughbreds. Presented single-blind; no formal notes. Wine #2 had great color, was developing, fresh, focused, balanced; great structure. One of those glasses of wine you didn’t want to end and, for me, a tough call for favorite of the flight along with Wine #1. I vacillated between this being Dominus or Monte Bello; ultimately calling the former. This is in a beautiful phase of life. Monte Bello is one of those wines that needs decades to show its best. Drink now through 2040. — 22 days ago

Agricola San Felice

Il Grigio da San Felice Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2020

This wine has a dark purple color and a complex nose. Aromas of black cherry, violets, anise, clove, leather and earth are plentiful in the bouquet. The palate offers a medium mouthfeel with great acidity and firm tannins. The fruit flavors are carried along by the more savory aspects of the profile. It is a wine which would love a pairing with a steak or a pork chop, or with a meaty stew. — a month ago
