Capp Vineyard Petite Sirah 2015

This is Sierra Foothills wine not Napa. Frogs Tooth Vineyards. Smells like three things blended. Fruits, alfalfa hay, & French perfume. Blackberry. Flavors are lovely. Berry scones and licorice like candies. Smokey but not overpowering. Has an elderberry streak. After linger is epic and lovely. Like a good book in front of a nice fire. — 12 days ago

Bacigalupi Vineyard Petite Sirah 2014

One of the best random picks I’ve made this year. Dark purple in color. This was very balanced with good tannins but less acidity than I usually expect with Petite Sirah. Tons of dark fruit with a hint of oak the first day. It had more refined grassy and floral notes the 2nd day. I’ll be looking to purchase more. — 16 days ago

LA BASTID Viura Blend 2019

Olivier Riviere La Bastia 2019, one of Riojas young guns and a big part of the postmodern revolution of the region. Le Bastid is a 90% Viura, 10% Garnacha Blanca, fermented and matured in 500 liter French oak barrels.
With resemblance to a good Burgundy the wine opens up with ripe white stonefruit (plum juice, white peaches) and a lemongrass herbiness. Followed by a whiff of toast and nuts that lies over a stoney minerality. Good energy on the palate with a fresh acidity and savoury qualities on the mid palate that brings dimension and complexity through the finish.
Paired with an improvised salmon and shrimp casserole in a mushroom infused velouté topped with fried parsley and sourdough croutons.
Serve it at 10-12 degree in a burgundy glass

So balanced and still can go a number of years. A welcome departure from my recent fare of Napa Cabs. Have missed the subtlety of petite Sirah! — 13 days ago

Recanati

Petite Sirah 2016

Decantation: four hours. It's deep, it's powerful. My last bottle from Recanati. I strongly recommend this label. It's easily to find dark fruit there, especially a plum, a blackberry. But the keyword is a coffee or mocha. It's overwhelming. I expected strong tannins, but no, they're mild with some interesting aftertaste. — 3 days ago

Lovely and aging well. Very smooth and bright with cherry notes but not overly so. Earthly and interesting but still light. — 8 days ago
