Matinee Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir 2011

I do like this Polish immigrant’s craft.

The blend of fruits are a broad spectrum of, sour, candied and floral, ruby, mid & dark, red fruits, dark, smooth spice, cinnamon stick, floral heaven & flat out elegance. The blue fruits in Paul’s wines are incredible.

La Maison Bleue Hermitage Syrah 2015

It’s a walk in the woods with a bowl of cherries. The nose presents with woods and earth. The palate brings forward subtle fruit notes. This is a complex beauty that paired perfectly with my rustic herb grilled whole chicken. While I’m generally not a huge fan of Syrah, this wine is wonderful. — 7 days ago

Domaine de Thalabert Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2017

Impressively complex for the price. Lilting purple flowers, black cherry, black plum skin, raspberry compote, tarragon and something like fresh sweet mint leaf which I’ve never had from Syrah. Great acid. — 4 days ago

CrossBarn Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

First time having the Cab under this label 👍🏻 Licorice, mint, cedar, plum, and smoke on the nose. On the palate Luxardo syrup, baking spices, sweet licorice, and dark berry medley. — 9 days ago

"Il Padrino" Bien Nacido Vineyard Syrah 2011

We had this right after the 2018 Strawberry Hills grenache. It was very good, but we thought the grenache was much better. Not sure if our palates were saturated, if the wine is in a bit of a dumb phase, or if it’s on the downslope, but this didn’t have the depth that I was expecting from this one. Still a terrific wine, though, so the streak continues of me never having a wine from Paul Lato that I have not enjoyed! — 18 minutes ago

Les Pitures Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2010

A beautiful, cool early Autumn evening, relaxing by a fire in the chiminea.

Partially-dried cherry, tar, cedar, dried orange peel, (minor) peat, dried strawberry, roses, light tannins.

"White Piano" Paderewski Vineyard Grenache 2018

Absolutely love Paul Lato’s grenaches. Made in a much more feminine style than, say, what John Alban does, this one is probably still a bit too young but was terrific just the same. Delicate yet intense, the bottle was finished before Vanessa and I realized it (always a sign that we love a wine!). I’d give it 2-3 more years in the cellar...but it’s pretty hard to resist right now! — 22 minutes ago

Vieilles Vignes Morgon Gamay 2016

Cloudy raspberry color that’s so intriguing. On the nose it’s crisp pomegranate, raspberry, and cranberry with subtle notes of smoke and dusty herbs. In the mouth the fruit is snappy and pure, with a pretty crushed rock mineral streak. High acid with sneaky tannic grip on the impressively long finish. Delicate, while remaining structured, and beautifully pure. — 9 days ago
