Kindzmarauli Saperavi 2023

9.0

A robust red but unlike other examples tasted off-dry, round and fruity (grape, raspberry, treacle) but little/no oakiness, no noticeable tannins. Must be some acidity disappeared into the background. — a month ago

A fun sparkling wine. Dry and mineral-forward. Some grapefruit and a tad salinity. Purchased from Clos. — 5 months ago

Mukuzani Saperavi 2018

Opaque red plum color, cherry and plum aromas. Spice and cherry flavors. Decant. Cherry with depth and cocoa emerge after a couple of hours. Healthy backbone of tannins here — 2 years ago

Marani Rkatsiteli

Light straw color. Aromas and flavors of peach, yellow apple, white flowers, apricots, white pepper and green melon. Very long and crisp mineral/saline driven finish. A bit of heft and grip. Bright, fresh and thirst quenching. — 4 months ago

Mukuzani Dry Saperavi 2020

You never know what you will get with wines from lesser known places. But Georgia has been a wine making country for hundreds and even thousands of years. Saperevi is a signature grape from there and other parts of Eastern Europe. It can be rather intense but this version is super refined, smooth and tasty. Really worth seeking out. — 8 months ago

Kindzmarauli Semi-Sweet Saperavi

Me: Nice smell; not too aromatic or overwhelming. Light tart on the swish in the mouth. Has a soft linger on the swallow and lasts a few seconds. I forgot to say, the bottle is badass (2023)!

Wife doesn’t like the smell. Taste is ok. Wife says don’t get again. 😆

That said, we normally drink heavy cabs; especially me so others who like semi-sweets would probably say we’re crazy.

We also didn’t pair this with anything.

Also, first time I’ve ever had a wine from the country of Georgia.
