Jacques Copinet

Copinet Monsieur Leonard 2008

A pale light yellow in the glass. Delicate small bubbles and nice creaminess. The nose is incredibly fresh with a touch of menthol complemented by pineapple. Nuttiness and baked bread along with pears. Tasted in the Grassl 1855 which showed more autolytic aromas after given time and air.

Another stellar champagne from the 2008 vintage. Blanc de blancs from Montgenost disgorged in 2019. Lowish dosage of 5 g/l but it doesn’t bring searing acidity, instead it delivers intensity, purity, and drama.

Pleasing and pleasant, there’s quite a bit to like here. The palate is focused and harmonious with complexity. Lively and intense on the tongue with plenty of citrus that recedes only for brioche bread to take the lead. Minerality on the long finish. Revisit this a few more years down the road and you’ll be happy.

Domaine Maume

Lavaux St. Jacques Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2010

Similar notes from April 2020 when I last had it. A red fruited nose giving a lovely earthy perfume with Sous Bois influences. Loam, compost heap nose. Same red fruits on the medium weight palate with strawberry and a touch of raspberry. As Jasper Morris said in his book, Lavaux St Jacques is one of the cooler sites in Gevrey Chambertin. This is always the last Rousseau wine to be picked and enjoying a longer hang time. After a couple of hours, just a gorgeous nose. — 21 days ago

@Ira Schwartz No the grapes were ripe. Delectable had put the vintage as 2011 which might have misled you. Now changed it to the correct 2010.

Substance Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Champagne Chardonnay

Disg. ‘19- Smoky and complex with typical solera style aromas and oxidation, but there is also an alluring freshness to this disgorgment. Very much needed a decant, but shows so much character, singularity and an expansive palate with a persistent finish. Love love love. — 20 days ago

Ultreia Saint Jacques Mencía 2018

McCarthy & Schiering, $21

Floral and dark fruit on the nose. Super complex, getting all different kinds of tasting notes with each sip. Blackberry, black cherry, wet sand, and a savory note that reminds me of herbs and olives and a touch of smokiness. The fruit is ripe but it still has a very bright acidity, maybe a touch too much for my tastes, smooth tannins and lingers on the palate for awhile - medium bodied. It may not be the best tasting wine I've ever had, but it is definitely one of the most refined and complex and was very enjoyable to drink!

Lieux Dits Les Carelles Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Champagne Chardonnay

Disg. 2/15 (08 base)- To no surprise, this disgorgement is straight fire. Rich, intense and layered with infinite flavors and aromas. There is vivid energy, exceptional detail and so much depth and presence on the palate. My favorite Lieux-Dits showing at its finest. — 20 days ago

Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard

Savigny-lès-Beaune Chardonnay 2016

Nose is dense with a bit of honey. Pear. Quince.

Palate is rich. Nicely fruited.

Damned good. I just opened it bc I was thirsty. This is really good.

A hint of heat or id rank this higher.

On day 2 heat is gone. Richness is grand cru level. Utterly delicious and hedonistic. Still balanced. Nose has ethereal minerality. Kiss of lime peel. Wtf is going on here. This is like drinking corton charlemagne! Wtf? What the fuck ?!?!? Lingering mere kiss of elegant honey.

Whatever. This is a 9.5 even though it’s a village wine.

Very good. Complex. Dark fruit classic. Hint dark cherries, orange peel, spices. But 225$. Worth the money? Not really. — 14 days ago
