Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo 2005

Bing cherry color in the glass with a ruby rim. Just the barest touch of bricking but certainly nothing to be concerned about. Spice and red fruit dominate this nose with black pepper and cherries leading the way. Fresh cut tomatoes, plums, and lavender show up too.

Showing pretty well at this age with no discernible defects. In fact, the fruit is fresh and lively. It’s not an overly complicated wine but it is classy. As much as an old reliable as there can be, it’s silky on the tongue with firm tannins. Vanilla, oak, and damp moss on the palate. This is a winner and reliable as all hell. Pretty stuff.

Plenty of American oak on the nose. Dill & vanilla with some dark plum aromatics. Medium bodied with a classy weight & texture. The oaky notes are there, but a pretty array of red fruit & tobacco leaf add some complexity. Structure is receding at this point and the wine is beginning to show some clove & herbal secondary character. Excellent. — 8 days ago

Aromas of plums, wet brown leaves and Forrest Floor. Flavors of cooked plums, raisins, cola and cocoa. Hint of cedar. Full bodied and nicely complex. Well balanced. Nice wine. — 14 days ago

A beautiful color of ruby with a wide brick rim.

Light and gentle nose of blueberries, black cherries, black currants, light oak, Indian spices, cinnamon, light licorice, coffee, light vinaigrette, curry and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with cherries, strawberries, red currants, light cedar, vegetables, coffee, tobacco leaf, herbs, black tea, peppercorn, vinaigrette and earth.

Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 14 year old is drinking very nicely now, although not from the best vintage.

Needs 2 hours to open up properly and show the beautiful nose, but pretty good right out of the bottle too.

This Gran Reserva is always enjoyable. A nice wine to have by itself or with food, and especially great with fatty cheeses.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo 2010

Meat juice, cigar, menthol, spices and I'm not sensing any fruit in there. The palate shows a huge acid backbone which tends to make it a tiny bit unbalanced if you drink it for itself. It calls for food. There are some tangy red forest fruits all along the palate. A good width with some grip, some weight and matter too. Very harsh tannins kick in in the middle which dry everything up before a long finish with those same red forest berries and a tiny bit of salt. I'll let it breathe for another hour to see if it settles but it's an enraged mustang running in the desert right now. — 21 days ago

Gran Reserva Maule Valley Carignan 2018

This inky wine has a slightly medicinal nose, with blackberry and tar notes. The tannins are forceful to a fault upon opening. Let it sit awhile and allow them to be less inflamed. The fruit is fairly forefront, possibly due to the aging of half the wine in concrete eggs. The savory finish is quite long and satisfying.

Gran Reserva Maule Valley Carmenere 2017

This Carménère shows a world of difference from the others in the TerraNoble line I’ve been trying. There is a boatload of dark fruit, to be sure, with black cherry getting into the act. The tannins are more reserved upon pouring while the acidity remains bright and juicy. It’s an excellent example of Chilean Carménère.

From Wine Merchants El Enemigo class 9/11/20. Cab Franc from Adrianna Catena and Catena winemaker. Deep purple in color. Blackberry on nose. Fruit with lots of vegetal undertones (bell pepper, jalapeño). Big bodied, with medium/high acid and soft tannins. Paired well with pizza, not as well with more tomato heavy lamb moussaka. — 4 days ago

Dark tawny brown in colour. Strong molasses/cane earthy smoky aromas. A brilliant palate of Caramel, molasses - a fluid mellifluous palate, so smooth it doesn’t show its 47.5% ABV.
