Layered, expressive nose of blackberry, cassis, cedar, espresso, light soy source, tobacco, and herbal spices. Very refined palate with dark fruits brighten by beautiful acidity and ripe velvety candied tannins. The finish feels like endless.
80/20 Cab/Merlot from 2 vineyards, raised in French oak barrel for 18 months, 15% new (Nose suggested much heavier oak use, but by no means it’s okay).
I don’t remember when and where I acquired this bottle, but I’m glad I did. — 5 days ago
Medium Ruby with complex aromas of ripe berry fruits and fresh floral, mint and herb citrus scents, aged for 36 months in oak. On the palate the palate flavors of raspberry, cherry, tobacco and fresh herbs give this medium+ body wine some power, yet it’s graceful and elegant. Soft fine tannins on a well balanced frame makes this wine enjoyable today but it will be better in about 5 years and over the next decade. — 2 months ago
This is a biodynamically-produced Cabernet Franc wine from Costa Toscana IGT, a coastal subregion within Toscana IGT, in Tuscany, Italy. 🇮🇹
Given their proximity to the coast of the Ligurian Sea, the vines likely experienced coastal influences, such as sea breezes and fog. 🌊
Although not native to Italy, Cabernet Franc thrives in this kind of environment with cooling factors and soil comprised of clay, schist, and limestone. 🍷 And while Cabernet Franc typically finds itself playing a supporting role (such as in a Bordeaux blend), with this wine, it’s captivating at center stage. 💫
To help promote the purity of fruit character, the winemaker used a percentage (15%) of whole cluster berries in the fermentation process and aged this wine 10 months in stainless steel, rather than oak. 👌👌👌👌
Ampeleia is the name of the producer, born out of a collaboration among friends Elisabetta Foradori, Giovanni Podini and Thomas Widmann. 💕💕
We’re loving this wine, which is bright, yet structured, featuring concentrated red fruit aromas and flavors, such as ripe cherry, strawberry, kirsch, plum, also bubblegum, violet, dried lavender, wet clay, wet earth, peat, tobacco, and vegetal notes.
Ampeleia, Cabernet Franc, Costa Toscana IGT, vintage 2018, ABV 12.5%.

— 19 days ago
Perhaps not my personal cup of tea, but there is no denying that this is a damn solid wine. Low key aromas but with a solid density, pears, yellow apples, jasmine, chalk and marzipan. The moderate acidity is balanced bu a chalky backbone that brings nerve and tension and lingers throughout a very respectable length. — a month ago
Silky, I could live in this glass! — 5 days ago
Whimsy on the label. Excellent Bing cherry color. Smells like herbs, stones and berries. Excellent flavor with woodsy, smoky, herb stuff to match the berry-cherry acid hit. Plenty of tannin and nice backbone on this. Great little bottle. — 2 months ago
