Jun 4th, 20172006 vintage. La Serra. 3 hours of decanting - the wine needed a lot of air to open up. Medium garnet, edging on tawny, hue. With air, the wine has a wonderful pot pouri, aniseed, violet and bitumen aroma. Red cherry dominant. Complex. Can smell this wine for hours. Developing nicely. On the palate, not as good as the nose. Medium plus chewy tannins, medium acidity, high alcohol, medium plus body and long, but slightly drying finish. My advice here is probably to open 5 hours before serving as it was clear that the wine was becoming more complex and interesting the longer the night wore on, whereas on opening I thought the wine was poor or even faulty.

Feb 6th, 2016Very serious on the nose, floral, licorice, good complexity. On the palate the wine is more streamlined, just about balanced with quite piecing acidity. Finish is commendable though the palate appears less impressive than I was expecting.
