Not to be confused with the La Serra MGA from La Morra. This "La Serra" is actually from the Serra MGA from Serralunga d'Alba. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2026 “La Serra” pours a garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with gorgeous notes of Morello cherry, tar, red roses, talcum powder, sweet pipe tobacco, curaçao, gravely earth, new leather, and a mix of exotic spices. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and savory. This is a tremendous wine that builds with character over the course of time in the glass. Way more exciting than this was back in 2017 (when I last enjoyed this vintage of La Serra). Drink now with patience through 2046.

Upon decanting for 30 minutes the nose is full of ripe cherry, tobacco & a bit of mint.
On the palate the nose is verified with good structure and soft tannin. it is medium bodied, delightful wine that is fully mature and has a long full finish. Drink it now. It is a lovely classic barolo.

2006 vintage. La Serra. 3 hours of decanting - the wine needed a lot of air to open up. Medium garnet, edging on tawny, hue. With air, the wine has a wonderful pot pouri, aniseed, violet and bitumen aroma. Red cherry dominant. Complex. Can smell this wine for hours. Developing nicely. On the palate, not as good as the nose. Medium plus chewy tannins, medium acidity, high alcohol, medium plus body and long, but slightly drying finish. My advice here is probably to open 5 hours before serving as it was clear that the wine was becoming more complex and interesting the longer the night wore on, whereas on opening I thought the wine was poor or even faulty.

Very serious on the nose, floral, licorice, good complexity. On the palate the wine is more streamlined, just about balanced with quite piecing acidity. Finish is commendable though the palate appears less impressive than I was expecting.
