Hard to believe this was a 05, no browning at the rim

Intense aromas of fresh and dried red cherry, cassis, blackberry. Intense savory notes of cigar smoke and dried leaf, dry earth, licorice

Palate is lifted but full bodied with medium + tannin and at least medium acid (definitely moreso than the heitz). Confirming the nose but juicier. Long finish of fruit

This was insanely fresh and I feel like it has 10 years until its peak. Blew us all away

Normally I'm not really a fan of St. Bernardus 12: to heavy and alcoholic. After a few years it loses it's sharp edges and gains more complexity, more chocolatey.

Looks like a current release - jet black w/sexy aromas of blackberries & plum, black cherry and blueberry - mocha & cocoa, just decadent. On the palate you get some Earth, licorice and gobs of dark fruit… smooth plush w/graceful tannins leading to persistent finish. A bold nose of leather, smoke and ripe red fruits, this is a big, bold wine. Paired with chicken adobo and Downton Abbey, the palate harkens forth notes of balsamic vinegar, bloody meat, leather and ripe strawberries with velvety tannins and a tart, lingering acidity. Just decadent, rich intense, chocolate malt, nutty caramel, dulce de leche, s’mores, etc. have to keep this away from kids. Hi-octane but ALC doesn’t show - extremely well done w/certain subtle acidic/yeasty tang which offsets all sweet notes... we have glasses for this specific beer which enhances the experience. — 4 months ago
