Napa Valley Chardonnay 2021

I haven’t had a Napa Chardonnay in quite a while. This is very nice. Very fragrant, with ripe orchard fruit, a nice florals, very light touch of barrel aging toast, and an interesting wet clay minerality. Denser in the mouth than the nose led me to expect. Low-toned cracked dark stones, with the fruit taking a back seat. Quite full bodied, but there is nice, subtle acidity to lift it just enough. Seem to me the closest French analogy is a well-made Pouilly-Fuisse. Got this for under $25 at Costco. — 4 months ago

@Tom Casagrande, I have to confess that I have NEVER had a Freemark Abbey Chardonnay, but it sounds like I need to change that!!

Stagecoach Vineyard Merlot 2014

It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!

This 10 year old Merlot is delicious.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Showing red and black fruits with cedar, licorice, light vanilla, tobacco leaf, earth, dark coffee, chocolates, peppercorn, herbs and black tea.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This Single Vineyard Merlot is elegant and robust. Drinking very nicely now, and probably at its peak. Will continue to drink nicely in the next few years.

Needs a few hours to open up properly, so be patient.

Tangy and engaging. Easy drinking and fruit forward.

Good by itself or with food. Will pair nicely with BBQ Meats.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$70.

Napa Valley Merlot 2019

If I were served this blind, I think I’d probably be more likely to peg this as a Saint-Emilion than a Napa Merlot. Not overly fruity, very nice savory notes. — a month ago

Deep purple color. Aromas of blackberry, dried herbs, leather and tobacco. Perfect Cab! Full bodied, loads of black fruit and oak on the palate.
