Today starts the long Labor Day weekend and I feel with the way the world has been turning that things have got to get better. Tonight I have opened the 2018 Coltilde Lagrand Saumur-Champigny Les Terrages Cabernet Franc. This is 100% Cabernet Franc and a lovely one at that, but I have always been partial to the Loire Valley Cab Franc.
On the nose there is black cherry, red plum, strawberry, raspberry, spice and crushed gravel.
On the palate I am getting tart cherry, raspberry, plum, gingerbread, green bell pepper and a bit of wet gravel.
This wine is medium to full bodied with medium + acidity and medium + fine sandy tannins that lead to a long pleasing red fruit finsh. Lets try to have a wonerful holiday weekend in the midst of such social unrest. Please be kind to one another, be safe and stay healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 20 days ago
Spicy and savory, with a whiff of wild herbs and lemon zest that completes a gorgeous bouquet. Silky on the palate, as ripe melon, hints of lime, minerals and juicy acids keep things lively and fresh, tapering off with inner florals and a hint of sour citrus. $14.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, September 2020) — 21 hours ago
My kind of wine but I’m predictable. Medium ruby but starting to show age on the rim, day bright. Aromas of violets, GBP, un-spicy jalapeño, black plum, black berries, yet also tart red cherries and cranberries, forest floor, meat, leather. Sweet tobacco on the palate. Dry, medium plus acid, medium plus tannins, medium alcohol, medium minus body. I would personally drink this anytime but could be a perfect fall/winter pick with all of the complexity and warm tertiary aromas. Love. — 13 hours ago
Always enamored by Eric Pfifferling’s wines but they are so hard to find. They all have a sense of quiet intensity, like the heat radiating off rocks when they are in the sun. But this doesn’t necessarily translate into “heat” in the alcohol sense.
First time trying this cuvée for me. Mourvèdre and Carignan blend rosé. Mix of red berries and ruby grapefruit notes on the palate. Floral on the nose. Savory finish with a hint of olives. Never disappointed! Paired with grilled lamb chops and couscous. — a month ago
