CrossBarn Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

1hr+ decant. Solid Cab. Decent amount of oak paired with dark cherries and graphite. Seemed a bit restrained as depth and finish were medium minus. — 13 days ago

Wow. Closed nose but bright blueberry hits your palate first followed by a rush of dark and robust flavors to stand up to the ribeyes. — a month ago

La Chapelle Hermitage Syrah 1999

Tart, dried blackberry fruit leather, earthy breeze smell on the nose (I don’t know what that means either, but that’s the first words to come to mind). Blackberry bramble, silk, and pepper. Some iron, but it’s soften over the years. This is a Belgian Sheepdog wine. Dark, bold, elegant, eager to please any Syrah fan. I want to go for a long hike through the woods, picking wild blackberries with this dog. Then we go home and share leg of lamb, rub the dogs silky ears, and drink this (just me. Don’t give alcohol to dogs). — 16 days ago

Lots of perfume and spice. Some marshmallow. A little boozy. Maybe a bit closed. — 18 days ago

Boisrenard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend

Really in very nice shape, maybe even a bit primary, ripe and soft, red fruit and spice, plush, enough structure to hold things together — 24 days ago

Dark rubi robe and asian spices nose, wrapped in high octane. Very good and well done, on a very hot vintage. — a month ago

Spécial Club Brut Grand Cru Champagne Pinot Noir Rosé 2015

So young, so very young. But so pretty and so damned delicious. Sparkling pale salmon with effusive perlage. It’s a very aesthetically pleasing champagne. Strawberries in cream are prominent on the nose with rose petals. Fresh brioche and daisies. The nose just goes on and on.

As is typical with Bara champagnes, this is Pinot Noir from Bouzy. Complex, alluring, and lithe, this has all the trademarks of becoming a great wine in the future. As it is, it’s already an utterly felicitous wine. Nice acidity and typically wonderful structure. Silky and luxurious but you just know it’s going to get better.

A sudden burst of seductive fruit in the mouth. Red apples, red cherries, and more strawberry on the palate. Plenty of citrus here, as well. Just the faintest hint of fresh mint on the long finish for an added boost. I should say hold these for a years so it can truly become itself, but go ahead now. Why not, you only live the once.

Domaine de Thalabert Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2017

Compared to cuvées 14, or 16 tasted, it is very good but not yet quite commensurate with what this wine can give. To be allowed to age another 3.4 years.

Au regard des cuvées 14, ou 16 goûtées, c’est très bon mais pas encore tout à fait à la mesure de ce que ce vin peut donner. A laisser vieillir encore 3,4 ans.
