This was the Cuvée 740 Degorgement Tardif. Stunning wine. Precise, complex, great texture…could be runner up to the Prévost La Closerie Beguines. — a year ago

Without a doubt, my favorite champagne producer. While the Crayeres and VP are my favorites, this was my first time enjoying the all Pinot meunier offering. This was opened alongside Billecart’s Rendezvous No1 and Prevosts’ La Closerie LC 17 (all three being Pinot meunier).
Disgorged mid 2019 after three years on the lees. This screamed Pinot meunier out of those three. The La Closerie (my favorite meunier champagne) has so much cardamom, and espresso coffee tones to it, and the Billecart seemed like a nice, bright champagne yet wasn’t overly expressive. The Egly had so much gummy fruit (like gummy fruit snacks), which I always get with meunier. Extremely expressive. Bright stone fruits on the nose along with spiced pear. Definitely a floral component...tangerine like. The palate is mostly racy at the core but surrounded by rich texture. An excellent representation of Pinot meunier. — 3 years ago
Closerie du Pelan was a recent acquisition by the Amoreau family (Chateau Le Puy). This particular example from the 2001 vintage was made by the previous owner; some leftover stock from the cellars.
Popped and poured. The 2001 pours a rudy color with a near opaque core. Medium viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous with nose of cassis, dark plum, tobacco, cigar box, damp earth and gentle baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins (mostly integrated) and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. This was a lovely surprise and I’m super curious how the Amoreau-effect will play a role at Closerie du Pelan from 2022, onward. Drink now through 2031+ — a month ago
The bottle I had 1 1/2 years ago was better. The nose has classic scents of wet sea shell and other limestoney minerals, but I detect a slight oxidative note already creeping in. There good weight, fruit, and minerality in the mouth. But the acids are lowish. And the color is a deeper gold than before. I’d drink and enjoy these before 2024 ends. This is the negociant project of Stephane Brocard.
UPDATE: On night 3, it seems more tightly knit and youthful. Weird! A Benjamin Button act. Upping score from 8.9 to 9.1. — 4 months ago
Last bottle from the 2008 vintage
Relatively low on pressure when uncorking. Small tight bubbles
👅This is rich with citrus, nuts, and bread. This has some smokiness and it is oxidative. There is nice acidity that remains noticeable through the finish. Finishes with a bitter quinine note and extra brut dryness
This is persistent and drinking well but I preferred this when it was fresher, crisper, and had some florality
