Chocolatier Red Decadence

Franz Haas

Alto Adige Moscato Rosa 2018

Lyle Fass

This is a novel wine. It’s Red Muscat that is served chilled like a white wine. It is easily one of Italy’s most unique and greatest wines. It has the character of wines in other styles that cost thousands of dollars but because it’s such a freaky grape and made in a freaky style, (11.5% almost like a Kabinett Red Wine) it’s not that expensive. Still it’s great. Truly epic. Like a dessert at a 3 star Michelin that centers around some insane sauce. This is the vinous equivalent of that sauce. The nose is floral to a degree that using floral to describe any other wine is an insult to this wine. It’s minty and smells almost like an apothecary in God’s waiting room. It’s got roses. I mean in your face yet subtle and beautiful roses. There’s also fresh green shrubbery. Like walking into a freshly manicured British aristocrat’s family garden. There’s deep black cherry skins. It’s pungent and potent but also haunting and beautiful. The palate tho! They combo of fresh/sweet/ electric sweetness and a guided decadence. Perfect balance. Insanely pure. Willi Schaefer vibes here. Gorgeous sweet tannins and a deliciousness that is rare in this world. After air the nose has green and oolong tea aromas. Just a mesmerizing nose. Palate and nose are 50/50. This is not a perfect wine but it’s perfect for me. 9.7. — 11 days ago

@Josh Morgenthau @Severn Goodwin coming in December. It’s gonna be the “Freak Show” wine of the year.

@Lyle Fass You'd better put 'freak show' in the offer name, or I'm gonna forget for sure. By then I'll be in the middle of reconciling the F20 ship. (The wife is gonna kill me when she sees all the boxes coming this time.)

Château Daugay

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend

Drinking the 2012 in 2020 (during coronavirus quarantine) with a grilled porterhouse and creamed spinach. There is a time for decadence and indulgence. This hit the spot. — 7 months ago

Menage à Trois

Decadence California Cabernet Sauvignon

One of my favorites in the cab department. Ménage tríos has consistently put out ones I like. This wine is very heavy on the palate and that’s something I appreciate. — 3 months ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2000

Really classic in style. Manages a nice bridge between Old World elegance and New World decadence — 6 months ago

Château Roc de Cambes

Côtes de Bourg Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Andreas Larsson: and spot on - a wine and a style that can’t be put into any category - this intensity, decadence, perfume, structure and length is simply mind blowing”...“Slightly more red fruit, rose, violet, raspberry, sexy with a meaty spiciness. Very dense palate, finely grained with sweet raspberry, ginger, clove, seamless tannins, intense flavours and a sexy texture and a very long, suave and delicate finish. Excellent. 98pts”
A lucky score @ garagiste. Merci

Robert Foley Vineyards

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Perfect Napa Cab. Aromatically romances you with kisses of milk chocolate decadence and blackberry pie. Then brings your palate to its knees upon first kiss that is equally complex in this marriage of dessert flavors and dark berry melange. Would not change a thing! The finish culminates in a glorious crescendo of harmonious tannins and juice, and lingers delicately in the aftermath of climax. This 2015 merlot emits a fine chocolate aroma with layers of spice that turn into a peppery finish. Smooth and yet a velvety decadence. — 3 months ago

Keep Wines

Yount Mill Vineyard Pinot Meunier 2018

Mmmmmm so summery! It’s all a warm day and some sour cherries, an overripe plum, açaí, wildflower honey, fresh red clay, and decadence. A Pinot Meunier so cool it’s a Gamay. Drink while wearing your favorite summer dress and a wide brimmed hat for full effect. Delightful. — 7 months ago

Château Cheval Blanc

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Delectable Wine

The 1990 Cheval Blanc is a vintage that once upon a time I drank regularly, although I had not seen it since March 2016. Poured against the 1990 Lafite-Rothschild, this is the clear winner. Still youthful in color with modest bricking. The bouquet explodes from the glass with kirsch, mulberry, antique furniture and black truffle scents. With aeration it becomes more savory, the Cabernet Franc wanting to see more of the olfactory action. The palate is medium-bodied and comes equipped with a stunning velvety texture. This Saint-Émilion feels spherical, conveying a sense of controlled decadence but avoiding any ostentation. This is as good a bottle as I have encountered over the years. Brilliant. Tasted at Noble Rot's “Xmas” dinner. (Neal Martin, Vinous, December 2019)
