Chateauneuf Du Pape

Domaine Duclaux

Chateauneuf-du- Pape Red Rhone Blend 2015

Very nice with heavy Grenache bent. Great for any night of the week — 14 hours ago

Château de Beaucastel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2007

Oxidized but delicious. Raisin sweet, earthy nose, and with the aged southern rhone influence this is drinking almost like a PX sherry or a moscatel. Palate is stewed date, apple, walnut — haroset! Still providing pleasure but don’t wait on this. From 375ml. — 2 days ago

Delas Frères

Haute Pierre Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2017

Dark pungent wine. Taste better than smell. 15%. Sat for over an hour and didn’t open up. Drinkable but not what I expected for a a chateauneuf du pape — 21 days ago

Domaine Giraud

Tradition Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2009

Medium garnet hue, bricking slightly towards the edges with great translucency.

On the nose this wine is bold and and aromatic, with cranberry, cherry kirsch, blueberry, hoisin, and notes of savoury game, showing the complexity of age.

The palate sees an explosion of sweet cherry with a slightly confected edge, perhaps owing to the hot vintage and high ABV, as well as Turkish delight, dark chocolate ganache, five spice, strawberry, blackberry, roasted meats and espresso. This could only be Chateauneuf. There is a strong spicy character, enough acidity to keep things in balance, and nicely resolved tannins. The finish is quite long, and very dry. This is a superb Châteauneuf that should continue to impress for the next decade.

Chante Le Merle Vieilles Vignes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 1999

Though likely past it’s peak, that must’ve been something even more special. Took an hour to sort out the rich brambly red fruit, plum sauce and shroomy earth. A real treat. — 6 days ago

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2016

Bright red cherry. Big tannins, but drinking well now with a short decant. This one can clearly go for many years. — 3 days ago

Henri Bonneau

Réserve des Célestins Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2004

From the great Henri Bonneau, along with Château Rayas, the master of CDP. (He and Jacques Reynaud were actually dear friends). It’s insanely expressive and its ultra intense aromatics leap from the glass.

The complex bouquet is layered with rich black and red fruit, leather saddle, wilted violets and savory herbs. It just floats on the palate with its supreme elegance, caressing texture and weightless intensity. So Burgundian in that sense. The finish is so long, lifted and intense, leaving you craving another sip when its flavors finally do dissipate. 04 Célestins is a total knockout.

Château La Nerthe

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2017

Bought this one last year at property where I found it splendid. Yesterday I had my doubts on what I drank back than and yesterday. Still very good with quite some elegance but a bit too much alcoholic heat. Probably this needs another year or two — a day ago

Boisrenard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2003

Soft red berry and underbrush nose led a plush, smooth and liquored-up core of red plum and kirsch. Lots of variation in this case but I loved em all so far. — 6 days ago
