A nunced and focused effort that lead to many surprises, especially given the forward style ‘17s have had for me.

One of my dear Dad’s favorites. It will always have a special meaning to me.

It has a medium garnet hue, despite its relative youth. Aromas are well-defined and concentrated with ripe black cherry, blackberry, plum, blackcurrant, licorice, violet, crushed peppercorn, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, tobacco, leather and forest floor notes that are mirrored on the palate.

Palate is dry with chewy tannins and a full body. It’s drinking deliciously now but could have had a long runway ahead of it yet.

Maybe too young, maybe too warm, maybe not enough air, maybe too much abv, but overall just didn’t love this. Some nice red darker and riper red fruits on the nose. Finish is quite muddled with poorly integrated tannin and very little acid. Try again in several years and make sure to decant and chill appropriately.

2 hour decant (little chunky and cloudy sediment). A wonderful dark red garnet color. On the nose: floral perfume, strawberry-plum, smoke, crushed rocks and orange peel. Taste: Young...still some grippy tannins...needs a few more years. A fresh and juicy wine with raspberry, wet stones, tobacco, pepper....finishing with a herbal strawberry medium plus finish.
