Love this estate. Poor man’s Petrus. Not really but fun to say Plummy, earth and bittersweet cocoa on the nose. Really complex spices also develop with air. Gorgeous aromas. Really classy. Needs mega air to get going but it’s all there. Palate is rich and rile but with terrific freshness and purity. This is a backwards wine. I forgot how backwards when young a great Bordeaux can be. Superb concentration and easily the most elegant Samion ever. The finish is crazy long and detailed. With so much cassis and elegant tannins that are perfectly integrated with the fruit. This is superb. — 18 days ago
Merlot dominated Bordeaux blend. Smooth drinker. This winery is located 300m from château Petrus and direct neighbors of château Gazin and Château Evangile. At 20 euro's a bottle excellent qpr. — 3 years ago
9.8 — 9 months ago
Raised a glass tonight to owner and winemaker Denis Durantou who passed in May. We were fortunate to meet him for a tasting and tour of his property back in 2012....a wonderful person, great winemaker with a sly sense of humor....jokingly told us Chateau Petrus knew it was time to pick their fruit when they would look over and see him picking his fruit😂.
1.5 hour decant (lots of chunky sediment). A superb dark garnet color with some bricking. On the nose: Very Expressive! with forest floor, plum, sweet vanilla, earthy, floral, and band aids. Taste: A soft medium body wine with plum/strawberry, minerals, crushed rocks, leading to a dry pencil lead finish. Well Done in a "difficult" vintage ( though many in Pomerol picked before all the Sept. rain). — 2 years ago
