Chateau Petrus

Vieux Château Certan

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1998

Off to the right bank and the most affordable top notch Pomerol that isn’t Petrus - VCC. Opened up with a bouquet of graphite, truffles and dark fruits that was reflected perfectly in the palate. Good structure and finish but I kind of expected it to develop a bit more given the character and charm out of the gate. Great experience overall. — 4 months ago

La Grande Pièce Vin Rouge Red Blend 2017

This bad boy was like a versatile NFL running back - weighty up front but surprisingly light and dynamic on its feet, and the moves for a lingering finish - the Elroy Carson type @Scott Petrus - oh yeah it’s 100% Grolleau from two Japanese wine makers in the Loire. — a year ago

Petrus Aged Pale Grand Reserve

Looks like peach nectar, with the lightest, looping bubbles in a loose bunch atop, becomes a petri sample of fruit fungus, then all clear to firework lacing and morning mist. Big wood notes, though not as toasty in parts, cigar box, funky softwood of dead forest fall, ripe for mushrooms. Lovely dried lemon peel, orange peel, and dried apricot in cigar boxes, live pineapple and pencil shavings in a clean attic. On the palate, yellow cherry, funky sour pineapple, lime-cedar, lemongrass, savory, dried okra, a drop of orange bitters, nose filling blood orange, and lemon oil for the duration. Fantastic nuances, amazing balance, woody depth. Just fine craftsmanship here, from the old school. — 2 years ago

Château Guadet

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2011

Celebrating a vacation break with #stemiliongrandcru . Purchased directly from the charming owner/proprietor Guy-Petrus Lignac who took us on a tour of his historic Château and cave in summer of 2018. Now after a full decade of laying down it was a good time to open it. After a solid 2 hours to open up, it presents a luxuriant aroma of cassis liqueur, stewed plums, a touch of tobacco and leather. Classic earthy #rightbankbordeaux character on the palate, soft rich dark fruit backed by firm tannins that build in your mouth. Easily 20+ years of cellar time could await this wine but it paired wonderfully with burgers. — 4 months ago

Château L'Eglise-Clinet

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1999

Raised a glass tonight to owner and winemaker Denis Durantou who passed in May. We were fortunate to meet him for a tasting and tour of his property back in 2012....a wonderful person, great winemaker with a sly sense of humor....jokingly told us Chateau Petrus knew it was time to pick their fruit when they would look over and see him picking his fruit😂.

1.5 hour decant (lots of chunky sediment). A superb dark garnet color with some bricking. On the nose: Very Expressive! with forest floor, plum, sweet vanilla, earthy, floral, and band aids. Taste: A soft medium body wine with plum/strawberry, minerals, crushed rocks, leading to a dry pencil lead finish. Well Done in a "difficult" vintage ( though many in Pomerol picked before all the Sept. rain).

Lyle Fass

Love this wine made by JC Berrouet of Petrus fame. Raspberry, bittersweet cocoa, earthy, cassis, superb minerality. Lovely, refined nose with a hint of rusticity. Palate is so ultra refined with plum and raspberry fruit. Ripe, precise taninns and great purity. Very very clean. Super juicy and structured like a classical Bordeaux. Good now better in 5 years. — 2 years ago

Michael Vineyard Merlot 2005

Sublime. I’m biased but it is probably the best example of merlot on the central coast. Tiny yield from a small vineyard planted on steep grade. Cherries, dark chocolate and muted green herbal pepper notes. Alleged Petrus clonal material, the result is world class and is hard to outshine domestically. — 5 months ago

Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Dominus Estate

Dominus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2004

Initial aromas of cedar box, fruit and nut chocolate and a herbal nuance. With air a note of violet after about 2 hours. On the medium to full bodied palate absolutely fluid and seamless with that berry and dark chocolate note but largely restrained. Such perfect balance that nothing really jumps out. From my limited experience with Napa Valley Cabernets I have always thought that Dominus is the most Bordeaux like of these Cabs. Not surprising when you know the owner Christian Moueix is the owner of Petrus and other right bank icons. Linda Murphy for Jancis said “Could be Christian Moueix’s best Dominus.” — a year ago

Which was a good price, current vintages go for double that price today in Europe
