Château Gazin
Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend

A Merlot dominant (90% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc) right bank special from an exceptional vintage. One of the 1001 wines. More tertiary aromas at 20 years of tobacco and spice. On the medium plus bodied palate the wine shows great richness, savouriness and elegance. The following night aromas of pipe tobacco as I often get with right bank Merlot. So much inner strength with this wine which will carry it through to the early 2030’s. An interesting back story with Chateau Gazin :- A neighbour of Chateau Petrus. Gazin does not have the same power and weight as Petrus. The owners of Gazin also own Chateau La Dominique in St. Emilion, but to keep hold of Gazin they were forced to sell almost 12 acres of Gazin’s own vineyards. The purchaser was none other than Petrus and this sale robbed Gazin of some of its best parcels.

Bday wine. Was savoury when first tasted and open up after 2 hrs decant. Tannin still there but missing the balance, blue fruit, floral and mineral of the usual pomerol

Now very open and accessible, but no rush, never overdone, excellent freshness combined with all the sexiness the best Pomerols deliver. Highly recommended !

Velvet velvet velvet.
This is the utmost in finesse. Ethereal wine. Not a lot of body and many might think its lean. I find it really excellent and its a Pomerol with Lafitte like tannins, drink or hold, your choice. Highly recommended.

So tight out of the gate. Blossomed at hour 4... ideally, it just needs another 5-15years.

A great pomerol on a great vintage, Gazin is Merlot harvested at maturity but not over, great acidity and balance with the tell tale notes of Merlot now emerging. I would say better to wait another 3 to 5 years but this is a really excellent bottle. If you like distinct and not overdone Pomerols, go after this one !

2005 vintage. Nothing wrong here. Still kinda inky and a bit concentrated, but figured it was time to try 1/4 bottles. Pretty good now, but should enjoy a nice long runway.
