Sono Montenidoli

Tradizionale Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2020

Color of deep hay. Fuller body with more structure (you can taste the slow gentle press of grapes). Really enjoyed. So curious to see where this heads in 3-5 years, but so good now. — 11 days ago

Rhys Vineyards

Family Farm Vineyard Pinot Noir 2009

These have begun showing Brett/funk, but this bottle is clean. My first without the horseshit kiss. PnP. Forest floor, wet sticks, and a bramble pie cooling by a distant window. This is Autumn Pinot at its most perfect. Plush mouthfeel with viscosity like a mild reduction (not reductive). While the tannin has faded, the concentration provides more than expected structure. — a month ago

Tenuta San Guido

Bolgheri Sassicaia Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2015

It doesn’t get much better than this from Tuscany. Super dry with dark red cherries and a little spice. Always special to open one of these bottles. — 23 days ago

Ridge Vineyards

Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2018

Deep purple, the 2018 Ridge Estate Cabernet Sauvignon shows pronouned aromas of blackcurrant, blackberries, tobacco, coffee, vanilla, cloves, dark chocolate, pine and menthol. Medium to full bodied with ripe, fine grained tannins and fresh acidity, this is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon dominated blend from the Santa Cruz Mountains. Drink from 2024 until 2040. — 8 days ago

Mount Eden Vineyards

Estate Bottled Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir 2017

A tad too young at the moment showing a lot of tension and a fair bit of tannin. But will be great for a long haul. Leans a touch heavy with bursting plum and blackberry, plenty of spices and a touch of smoke. — a month ago

Rhys Vineyards

Horseshoe Vineyard Pinot Noir 2009

Posted this bottle before. All I’ll say is how well it’s aged. This isn’t going anywhere yet I can’t resist drinking it at this stage. — 18 days ago

Agricola San Felice

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend

Okay, my hands are aloft. I have to admit, I’ve no idea how a basic Chianti - retailing around £13 with a production close to half a million bottles annually - can be this good. Heck, good doesn’t do it justice: it’s sensational. This 2016 San Felice didn’t need much time in the decanter to unfurl its alluring aromas of fresh blackberry, cranberry, dried cherry, vanilla, chocolate, cinnamon and clove; truly a joy to sniff.

The palate of forthcoming, with a supple mouthfeel offering flavours of ripe but very fresh black and red fruits, clove - again - along with tangy acidity and an iron core. The finish lasts for some time, and I find it a wine I struggle to put down.

This is a fantastic wine and, at least in 2016, an absolute must buy for lovers of Chianti.

Williams Selyem

Vista Verde Vineyard Pinot Noir 2007

From 5 Liter (6.6 bottles of wine)...go big, or go home

Pop and pour. A brilliant medium ruby red color with some purple hues and clear/tawny colored rim. On the nose: Nice! Candied strawberry, vanilla nuts, sandlewood, cherries, forest floor. Taste: smooth, slightly creamy, nicely structured wine with cherry, earth, minerals, ruby red grapefruit, and a black pepper herb round finish. YUM!!! Sure, on the downside, but holds up least from a 5L.
