Unmistakably Central Otago to my palate. Red plums and raspberries. 20% of the grapes were whole bunch. Also aged in 27% new oak. I must mention Neil Martin’s famous Quote, “ Whenever there is a tasting designed to challenge the supremacy of Burgundy, it is usually Felton Road that is ushered into the ring”. Very much on allocation these days and can be difficult to source. — 3 months ago

Delicious. Nose has that mineral “stank” that I associate with Auxey in spades and love. Deep fruit, sidling up from the apple side of the spectrum to the peach side, along with nice wet straw notes. Hint of melted butter. On the palate it’s concentrated but nicely balanced. Nice length and intensity. Best vintage of this wine I’ve had yet. — 7 months ago

Slightly brighter and more ruby garnet appearance . Narrow garnet rim . This has more crunchy , cherry fruit focus , with some chalky , dried flowers , wet stone hints . On the palate this mineral note is also present but with strawberry and red cherry , a bit more structure , tannins a little more present , but still with good refreshing acidity . Lightly mineral , cherry tinged finish . Pretty decent length and freshness , though the Malconsorts does appear to have more layers . This is slightly rustic , less polished in comparison with the Malconsorts, a little more nervy and edgy . Pretty young still , I would give this a bit more time, another 3-5 years or so , and then should drink well over the following 5-10 years . — 2 months ago

100% Viura white Rioja. Bright light yellow color. Aromas of orchard fruit, white flowers and citrus. Flavors of green apple and pear fruit, lemon zest, pineapple and a hint of banana peel. Touch of both salinity and minerality on the medium (and slightly creamy) finish. Low acidity and a bit flabby. Medium bodied. Fresh and clean with a smooth texture. Pale to mid Ruby. A sooty earthy savoury red fruited note with raspberry and new leather. The palate is reserved yet with M+ intensity. Delicate yet assertive. Still very fresh for its age. Elegant with enough palate weight to make it totally enjoyable. Benjamin Leroux was the winemaker who has gone on to more accolades with his own label. Jasper Morris thought that this was the best wine made by Benjamin Leroux during his 14 year tenure at Domaine du Comte Armand. Would go on for several more years if you were lucky enough to be holding some. Pommard is another commune which has no Grand Crus but this must be one of the best Premier Crus. I concur with Jasper Morris MW when he had a bottle of this very wine with friends when he said “we were very sad to finish the bottle “. My son Hugh bought this wine for me from Sotheby’s NY in December 2013 and brought it home in his luggage for Christmas that year and I am so glad he did. This is one of the 1001 Wines. — 7 months ago
