Paul Hobbs is one of the greatest producers of California pinot noir. Opulent, floral and fruits forward in youth. This is my 2nd bottle of 2012 since 2015. The fruits have somewhat settled down. I remember my first experience with this floral, beautiful wine as clearly as if it had happened just yesterday.


カリピノの魅力を教えてくれたPaul Hobbsのピノノワール。3年前(2015年)に開けて以来の2本目。香り高く、華やかでフルーツ感が前面に出ていたあのピノは、落ち着いた感じになっていました。このピノに関して言えば、3年前に飲んだ時のあの華やかな香りが忘れられないなー。

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

Not the best bottle of this I have ever had, but this is from a different batch. The nose and palate showed savory notes with plum sauce, mocha, and black muddled fruits. The nose is very expressive and potent, flowing from the glass as if the flavors are evaporating and finding my nose. The tannins are medium and fully integrated into the wine. Dark purple and opaque core fading out to a violet rim. A ripe and alcoholic nose full of black fruit, chocolate, and green pepper. The palate was full and not well balanced with gritty tannins, high alcohol, and low acid. Candied and ripe black and blue fruit dominate with a touch of graphite. Opaque and dense. Extracted to the nth degree. Blackberry jam, tar, resin and dark chocolate. Mouth coating with relentless tannins that grip like a rabid pit bull. VERY high octane at 15.2% ALC.🔥🔥. Needs a long decant and food to appreciate at this stage. #paulhobbs

Happy Father's Day! Grand Cru #tokalon Cabernet, from @paulhobbswinery who is my guilty pleasure go-to #Napa producer. Umami laden Bing cherry, cassis, rich mocha, charcoal, and graphite, this is off the charts in complexity and depth. It should peak within 5 years for intensity and balance, and for wonks like me that like their wines with age, should easily stretch to 15-20 more years. In a great spot now, the umami thing is really pulling me in, surprisingly good mouth watering acidity too! Many try to achieve what Paul can do with ripeness but fail to achieve the intensity married with this careful balance. #paulhobbs — 3 years ago
