Very good #grunerveltliner from #austrianwine pale lemon color with pronounced aromas of white flowers like honeysuckle and jasmine. Citrus fruits like lemon peel and grapefruit. Herbal aromas like spicy rocket (arugula) and secondary aromas of cream. Medium body and pronounced intensity flavors. The finish is long and the wine is very good because of the complexity and intensity of the aromas and flavors, the length of the finish and the overall balance with a very smooth texture. — 9 years ago

Wine 1 of 4 of another world tour of wines purchased at Total Wine. The
Grüner Veltliner grape is by far the most widely grown grape in Austria. The variety is a bit unusual, as it is an offspring of Traminer and St. Georgen, the second parent being of local descent in Austria. The wines can run sweet to off-dry with flavor from stone fruit to citrus. Paired this one with a Mushroom-Swiss chard quiche and was not disappointed. On the eyes: Starbright straw yellow, light stain, light legs. No floc - gas/effervescence observed.

On the nose: Unripe pear and green apple, lemon rind, vanilla, honey, and floral notes. Med- alcohol.

On the tongue: Light tannin, med+ acid, med- alcohol, effervescent with a nice round mouthfeel. Off-dry. Citrus poached pear/apple that finishes with an herbaceous mineralty. Med finish, med body. — 10 years ago

A total wine pick up, looking for an alternative white varietal to stand up to some lightly spicy peanut noodles and struck upon this Grüner Veltliner. This white grape is typically a cooler climate Eastern European varietal. As of 2008, Austria was the primarily producer of this grape in vineyards typically mixed with Riesling. It also is used in sparkling wines as the mineralty and acidity lend themselves well to that preparation. To be perfectly honest, I bought this bottle based on label design alone - the Gruber label has adopted these "micro-organism monsters" as the mascots of the winery which has been producing wine since 1814. ~$17 | #grünerveltliner
