World's Apart Wine

World's Edge

South Eastern Australia Cabernet Sauvignon

Deep ruby in color; black currant, baking spices, and graphite on the nose; medium acidity; medium plus tannins; tastes like cassis, blackberries, and eucalyptus with a long finish. Easy drinking. Not bad. — 16 days ago

R. López de Heredia

Viña Bosconia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 1981

Medium garnet wide watery rim . No oxidation whatsoever , really quite floral and enticing on the nose , dried strawberry raspberry fruits , truffle , spiced old wood notes . On the palate lovely freshness and elegance with those red fruit, truffle and spiced strawberry, earl grey tea notes . Good length , just slightly drying on the finish now , apart from that this wine really does show well . Very elegant and precise . If you have the bottles open over the next 5 years or so . @ Rockpool Sydney , great suggestion from the sommelier even if I did really want to stick to Australia !

Haha , yes Bob that is the only regret I have about that choice ! Though in fairness my first choice (Jasper Hill , Emily’s Paddock 1993) they had just sold out of ! Their list is really quite fantastic in its depth , and not just of Australian wines . The steak was pretty good also !

Yes, I remember going there to tick off wines from the “1001 Wines to Drink before you die”. I think much of it came from an American collector and was strong from the USA and across the board. I remember having a Pride Mountain (Napa) and a Numanthia (Spain) on various visits. Sadly they had the odd fake like a DRC RC 1945 for $75,000 which was removed from the list. Rudi strikes again?

I can imagine it would take quite some time to go through that list ! Yes , the American partner in Rockpool had purchased quite a lot of Rudy fakes he ended up suing his insurer for $18 million and…. he lost.

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1985

There are clarets and then there are clarets - this is the latter. Intoxicating Perfume of currants and tobacco gives way to a palate that is like a time capsule - loads of currants, cassis, cedar, truffle and sous bois. Tannins completely melted. Apart from a touch of phenolic notes in the first 30 mins or so, this is just gorgeous and what a perfectly aged claret should be. — 2 years ago

Crossfire Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Had several bottles of this wine in the past 5 years. And this one is easily the best.
Gorgeously rich and pure on the nose: black cherries, blueberry pancakes and blackberry preserve.
This all echoes on the palate and some well dosed pinches of caramel, cocoa, coffee and toast take this wine to another level. Just enough acidity to give it some fraicheur, soft and ripe tannines backing up the long and incessant finish.
Totally beautiful.

Had this twice something like 5 years ago, back then it was still a bit rough around the edges. Should have waited much longer reading your notes

@Jan A Maybe yes, maybe no. Could be due to substantial bottle variation as well.

Marchesi Antinori

Tignanello Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 2019

The Antinori family, one of the world's oldest and most distinguished wine producers, lived in Tuscany since the 14th century. Blend of 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cab Sauv & 5% Cab Franc, less maceration than prior vintages. Deep Ruby, aromas of black berry fruit aromas with herb, mint and sweet spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry and cherry with cacao, vanilla and tobacco spice. Fine tannins, long finish, well balanced, ending with oak, juicy fruit and earthy mineral tones. Very Nice! — 7 months ago

Morgon Gamay

Always superb. Ripe, juicy cherries on the verge of jammy but still fantastic freshness. Pink flowers and some minerality buzzing around the mid palate as well. Began to fall apart after an hour or two but still, hits every single time. — 7 months ago

Rebel Rebel Reserve Napa Valley Chardonnay 2013

Starting to lose its fraicheur now.
It’s all about vanilla, butter, hazelnut and mango now.
