Completely glorious showing. Wide open from the start, with huge, kinked-out aromatics and beautiful, forward fruit that manages to be opulent without losing any precision. The palate is seamless, juicy and perfectly balanced, with terrific concentration, gorgeous texture and that almost absurd Thörle sense of engineering where everything is exactly where it should be. Quiet but very good nose of sour cherry, spice, flowers, a touch of reduction and something faintly like malted milk balls. The palate is where the wine lives, with huge acidity, tremendous tiny-berry concentration, real savor, density and all-red fruit. There is a Burgundy 2023-like chord progression to the fruit, with sweetness building through the mid-palate and a long, energetic finish. Powerful and impactful, almost GG-like in scale, but it lacks the finesse, polish, balance and purity of the 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022. Very good, but not one of the great vintages. — 2 months ago

One of my favorite sleeper wines in my portfolio. Nose has lemon pith and flesh and a hint of creaminess. Gorgeous and clear minerals. Smells like a scene in nature. So vivid and like a field. Palate is just so complete with lemon, grapefruit and green apple flavors and a lovely limestone minerality throughout and tons of sap and length. With air the nose has a unique grassy element. Really fresh and perfectly integrated acidity. This is the type of wine restaurants in the usa need by the glass. Of course it would be overpriced but at least it will be great. Really picking up some finesse now with air. This is so well made. Nose is stanky mineral now. Also so saline. Sea breeze. Palate has such grace and a quiet density. Round and fresh. — 2 years ago

Quite light straw colour . Green apple , lemon rind , white flowers and wet stones . On the palate high acidity balanced with hint of sweetness . Absolutely stunning out of the gates, with a deep, creamy nose of mid-season cherry, dark cherry, black cherry, raspberry spice cake, leather and a faint birthday-cake sweetness, all framed by beautifully integrated wood and a very clear limestone signature. The palate is a nuclear detonation of tiny-berry fruit, with extraordinary clarity, juiciness, freshness and energy, plus velvety, beautifully articulated tannins and outrageous inner-mouth aromas. There is an almost holographic intensity to the wine, as if every liquid molecule explodes with fruit and mineral detail. The sweetness and freshness are in remarkable balance, the finish is long and limestone-driven, and this has enormous upside potential toward 9.7 or even 9.8 as it continues to open.

After about 75 minutes this moved higher. The finish is epic, nearly two minutes long, with beautifully hierarchical layers of dark cherry fruit, limestone and serious, perfectly articulated tannin. Tremendous clarity, intensity and structure, with the fruit still absolutely detonating through the finish. Remarkable wine with easily another decade ahead of it. 9.6 to 9.7. — a month ago

Austere, almost fruitless nose of dry limestone and intense mineral. The palate is far more generous, with juicy concentration, apricot, peach pit and terrific texture, all cut by huge acidity. Love the tension between the severe mineral exterior and the ripe fruit underneath. Finishes a little short, but this is serious, delicious and completely on the Kalkstein line. — 3 months ago

Lovely pithy fruits on the nose. Apricot, nectarine and stunning, wafting minerality. Palate is rich, Rheinhessen rich, but with bracing acidity and just such a generous texture. Beats the 2015 Thörle Hölle with ease. Soft mellowed out. Cardamom, orange zest, hint oregano, plenty tannins. Faint cherry. Needs air - give it 1h at least! In Germany 2015 was considered one of the best vintages ever. Can run another 5-6 years. For some reason i love the the E&M off vintages more - go figure? With air this further improved lime and more pronounced cherry. — 2 years ago

The future of sparkling wine is here. Chardonnay on limestone but in Saulheim. Unreal nose. Wow. Deep notes of green apple, butter, earth and minerals. So ebullient and expressive. This totally smells German but still has a foot in Champagne. Some notes of lime blossom emerge as well with air. This is like a $60 Champagne nose. Palate is awesome. Full of sweet lime fruit and very lemony and super crisp. Such cut and precision. Awesome chewiness and density while remaining light on its feet. It’s a very mineral wine. It almost seems Brut Nature but it’s classified as Brut. — 2 years ago

Stunningly confectionery and perfumed on the nose, with cotton candy, limestone, spice and a brown-sugar exoticism that turns almost spice-bazaar-like with air. The palate is juicy and ripe but still skeletal, architectural and bone dry, with terrific sap, density and mineral precision. Absolutely world-class white wine. The nose is pure and beautifully lifted, with clean limestone, subtle natural-world aromas and perfectly judged oak adding complexity without ever dominating. The palate is extraordinary: rich, saturating and powerful, yet tense, saline, nervous and completely precise. Tiny-berry fruit explosions emerge with air, framed by sweet mineral extract, tremendous grip, silky texture and unbelievable purity. Dense but never heavy, opulent but disciplined, with Grand Cru structure, refinement and a long, building, penetrating finish. This blows away an enormous amount of white Burgundy. Last drank 4 mo ago; aromas on this bottle are more intense than my previous notes. Lots of sappy red fruit, dark rose, and a lot of violets. Palate also sappy, with tart acid. Really a fantastic value at around 20 USD. Bought a case; will go well with Thanksgiving dinner. — a year ago

With air some savoriness, lilacs. More Burgundian.

Palate : sweet midseason cherries. Hint of licorice. Bracing acidity.

In an odd place now. Not showing it’s usual exuberance. Let’s see where it goes.
