Spätburgunder Wanne 2015

Turned into a beauty. Fully developed soft and mellowed out. Still nice fruit. Hint band aid, chocolate, bark. Dark ripe cherries. Hint blackberry and lime. Plenty of acidity. Could go 5 more years or so. At some point i have to take a look at the “Wanne” aka Bathtub vineyard. — 17 days ago

Château d'Yquem

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 1999

Yellow gold with copper hue, quite thin pale rim . Caramelised pineapple, saffron , vanilla , creme brûlée , quite rich and decadent. On the palate again quite rich , barley sugar , creme brûlée and saffron, just enough acidity to balance and a little alcoholic warmth . On the medium length finish , lemon rind and a touch of caramel . This is probably at peak now , just misses a little vibrancy , freshness, however successful for the vintage . Drink now and over the next 10- 15 years — a month ago

Château Rieussec

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2005

Deep gold in color. Lower acidity than expected. Lots of white stone fruit and sweetness with some biscuit on the palette. Great complement to Brie. For the vintage and the producer a little underwhelming. — 3 months ago

Cristal Brut Champagne Chardonnay Pinot Noir Blend 2009

Perfect splurge for quick getaway to paradise for Presidents Day. The wine is medium gold in the glass… vibrant and alive with balanced acidity. Open and generous on the palate… smooth, silken, with vibrant citrus and cream notes. A lively and lovely dinner companion at this stage of development. Happy President’s Day, y’all. — 5 months ago

Delicious

Lillian Winery

Gold Series No. 1 Syrah 2013

It’s an Oregon wine for sure and by that I mean way lighter in body than a CA Syrah. The flavor and finish is not at all dialed down. It’s got a great nose, edge on the palate and a very long finish. — 11 days ago

Interesting. Her style is way lighter at least compared to the other bien nacido wines I have had.

@Norman Gennaro : I agree with you. Not sure how much of it has to do with the other vineyards, use of whole cluster, when she picks, etc. I really like the Lillian Syrahs…I need to find more!

Butteaux Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2007

Light gold in color. Corn and lemon oil with a marine note. Less complex than the Valmur but delicious, defined and has great balance. — 2 months ago

Bollinger

La Grande Année Brut Champagne Blend 1996

From magnum, the 1996 Grande Année pours a brilliant pale gold color with a persistent mousse. Initially, the wine showed more oxidative notes but it freshened up considerably with air (in fact, a tiny amount was leftover for the next morning and it remained brilliant, racy even!). On the nose, notes of almond, citrus, honey, chalky minerals and brioche. On the palate, wine is developing with absolutely brilliant acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and zippy. The 1996 vintage is simply amazing. Here we are, 28 years past vintage and this bright and full of life! Granted, it’s a magnum, but still. Drink now with patience or enjoy through 2046+. — 4 months ago

Classic orange gold color. Paired nicely with bbq short ribs. Honey, apricot, oranges, and a little Sauternes on the nose. Same on the palate. Maybe a touch over the hill, but nice. — 19 days ago

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 1983

Served around 55°F. The cork looked all kinds of nasty underneath the capsule but I was able to extract it, intact, with the help of a Durand. I then poured the bottle into a decanter about 30min prior to service. At the ripe age of 41, the 1983 pours a deep gold with a transparent core; medium viscosity with some slight signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of baked stone fruits: peach, apricot, marmalade, hazelnuts, baked lemon, and those gummy peach rings. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the texture is creamy, buttery. I thought this was a lovely, mature Corton Charlemagne and while it is very much alive, its life-force is fading. Drink now. — 3 months ago
