Tua Rita Redigaffi Toscana IGT 2016

Wow. This is really special. Complex with fruit and earth and cedar and leather and chocolate. Kept evolving in the glass. The tannins were super smooth and silky. Already drinkable but with the acidity and tannins to keep on going for some time. — 2 days ago

Whitcraft Winery

Cuvée Viticole Sta Rita Hills La Lie Fine Pinot Noir 2017

Crunchy, vibrant Pinot. 12.55% ABV (woot!) Unfined, unfiltered. This is Brian’s style of wine, a style I’m happy to drink. But, my resident non-credentialed wine drinker said: “It looks like a Pinot, but it doesn’t taste like a Pinot....”
There’s some candied cherry fruit for sure, but grippy minerals and green veggies make this a different animal. Could easily be confused with cru Beaujolais.

A good surprise. Great mix of acidity and creaminess in this Chardonnay. Really enjoyed it — 10 days ago

Perlato del Bosco Sangiovese 2017

Nice balance of acid and tannins, yielding a tangy Sangiovese. This was very, very young (had only been in the bottle a few weeks) and was still a bit sharp edged. But loads of promise. — 4 days ago

Paul Lato

"Seabiscuit" Zotovich Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017

This was the most open of the Pinots and drinking great. I kept tasting cherry jolly ranchers.
Paul Lato was in town and I had the chance to spend some time with him and taste through several of his new releases. His wines are great across the board.

Jamie Slone Wines

Pinot Noir 2014

Jamie Slone Wines is a small producer of some fine wines from Santa Barbara County. P1 (a racing term), is a blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon and 34% Syrah, aged for 30 months in new and neutral French Oak. Aromas of lively fruit, spice and cedar notes. On the palate fresh fruit flavors cherry and currants with some leather and cacao spice with underlying gentle sweetness. Well balanced, soft tannins, lingering ending with great mouthfeel. A winner, one of my Fav’s! Tasting Sample. — 7 days ago

Rosso dei Notri SuperTuscan Blend 2017

Lots of varied spicy notes, and the tannins come in slowly. Quite nice for their entry level. — 4 days ago

Clos Pepe Estate

Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2014

Ruby colored liquid in my glass. Hints of cherry pie on the nose. Flavors of tart cherries, red plums and baking spices. Beautiful acidity. A very balanced wine. This is my last regular bottle of CP wine. I do have a VS Pinot which I will sit on for a while. Glad other wineries are making really good wines from the Clos Pepe vineyard. — 18 days ago
